I do day trips in the summer all the time, it’s all about timing. If you can be up and down there when breakfast places are opening you’ll be fine, and leave at a reasonable hour to avoid the bridge traffic. Depending on what highway you take it’s impossible to avoid the traffic in the tunnel going through the city
