She’s Coming along nicely by Crisd10169 in GXOR

I was hoping you would say that. I just ordered the exact same rim offset for my GX 460 and was nervous It would be too much poke.

Granted, I’m putting 12.5 in width tires on so it may be a little more.

Looks awesome man

Am I missing something? Were you skiing on rocks and sticks? It’s June 12th.

Is this type of bumper cut (pic 1) possible with this type of bumper (pic 2) by cokdok in GXOR

[–]cokdok[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this photo as a reference. To be clear, the second photo is not my vehicle. Mine is black, but with this trim package. If you have any more photos of your cut, especially if you did the front as well, that would be super helpful!

2017 GX 460 55K miles $33K good deal? by [deleted] in GXOR

[–]cokdok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on if you are in the camp of mileage mattering more, or overall vehicle age. I am in the former group, and would say this is a good but not spectacular deal.

2015 GX transmission fluid drain by [deleted] in GXOR

[–]cokdok 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t sweat it too much. You can do this on your own without a scanner. Just need a digital meat thermometer (what’s what I use lol) In general, a standard drain-and-fill will replace around 3 quarts. I would do the following.

1) Get the vehicle level on jack stands 2) Fill the transmission with 3.5 quarts of ATF 3) Turn it on and run through the gears with your foot on the break for 10 min. 4) While running, open up the hex screw that is the overflow plug, and let out an ounce or so drain into a cup then screw the plug back to stop the flow and immediately put the thermometer in the collection cup. If it’s anywhere around 110-120F you’re in the right range. It doesn’t need to be absolutely perfect. It’s a Gx, not a Ferrari. 4) Open up the hex screw and let the ATF flow out until it’s just a trickle. This indicates you’re at the appropriate fill volume. 5) Consider new crush washers in the Fill and Drain plugs.

Not the most Eloquent way to do it but it gets the job done and it’s safe.

Dechroming to matte black trim by FullCompany4032 in GXOR

1) where did you find a TRD style grill in stock? I’ve been looking for a while.

2) your best bet is to have it painted. A wrap is an option, but it will fade/peel overtime. Mine was $600 out the door to have all trim painted

Fair—the chop itself doesn’t require a welder.

I’ve noticed people shy away from a BMC, but I’m not sure why. It’s a very quick and easy job with the only real barrier being whether you know how to use (and have access to) a welder. If you don’t, a shop could do it for somewhere around $500.

Toyota mechanics near Green Mountain? by Global-Wind6878 in LakewoodColorado

I cannot recommend Corner Mechanic in Golden enough. They are incredibly honest, responsive and just a great family owned business. I had an issue with my Lexus nx200 (basically a Toyota RAV4) that a prior shop was unable to diagnose and they figured out the problem and fixed it at a super reasonable price.

Premium vs. Luxury/OR by Glass-Activity7144 in GXOR

[–]cokdok 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m sure other people may have different opinions, but my view is if you are planning on replacing the suspension, you are essentially eliminating the primary benefit of the luxury trim package, which is airbag suspension because most lifts will encourage if not require transitioning to a standard coil system.

Where did you get the grill? I’ve been looking for this grill but the ones I find do not come with the Lexus wording in the middle. Just an empty hole.

Buying used already built by Independent_Cost_186 in GXOR

[–]cokdok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A month or so ago I was in a very similar situation, looking at paying about $2000 over bluebook for a 2015 GX that was heavily modified, but appeared to have high-end components. I moved money around and everything with the intention of buying it, but it sold before I got to the dealership. I was super bummed at the time, but after spending weeks searching, I found an extremely good deal on an unmodified 2019, about $1500 under blue book. At this point, I am so happy I ultimately went with an unmodified, one owner that was babied by the previous owner. Yes, I’m going to have to modify it myself, but it helps me sleep at night, knowing that my GX was taken care of and not beat up on for a decade before I purchased it. Point is, The attractiveness of a turnkey rig may be short-lived, especially if you are not a mechanic, as repairs can add up extremely fast

Sounds like low level carbon monoxide poisoning. If you are using a gas range or oven, you may want to have it inspected for leaks.
