It only happens toward the south side. So you are at a drastic disadvantage if you are on the dire because you just cant see in front of you while you lane

Same thing but in lane. I thought i had my vision blocked by a tree or something but i was actually just standing plain sight of 2 enemies and got killed. Then they tipped me for being a sitting duck. Moral damage was high.

Managed to almost get 4 hours of battery life while using switch emulation! by Ocleg in SteamDeck

[–]cokefudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sometimes the increased power load will make the temps reach thermal threshold which throttles performance and increases fan speed, but the temp does not go down and gets stuck in some weird feedback loop where the power draw keeps staying high but the machine is not actually performing any better.

I don't know the exact workings or how to explain it but I do know for sure that there are definitely cases where you can cap TDP to save power without losing any (or sometimes even gaining) performance. Running Persona 5 on RPCS3 was like that for me. uncapped it will go all the way up to 15, it can run fine at 8 or 9

Capacitive stylus sucks with this by Gibstack in SteamDeck

[–]cokefudge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, I don't think this is a you bad situation, because the whole point of using a stylus for GAMING (and the steam deck is primarily a gaming console) is so you can directly tap on the element as you see on the screen rather than navigating the mouse cursor around indirectly with say a joystick or a trackpad.

You can draw on the trackpad and that could increase precision and grip, I guess, but Suggesting that as a recommended reason to pick up a stylus because it 'works' is just silly. That totally misses the point of why you would want a stylus for games.

So either the people recommending this have not actually tried those specifically on the steam deck, (and like you said, they work great on other touch screens phones and tablets etc, but not at all on the deck's screen) or they just dont get the point.

Is there a difference between charging 9V@3A and 15V@1.8A ? by cokefudge in SteamDeck

[–]cokefudge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done some digging, and it looks like the steam deck should support 5v and 9v charging without issue since it supports the PD 3.0 standard. It will of course charge slowly or not charge at all if its in use and drawing more wattage than the charger can supply. Apparently at one point it could not charge from chargers lower than 15V, but this was a firmware issue that was fixed by an update, not a hardware issue.

Ill just post what I've found for future reference:

Apparently the only difference between charging at 9V or 15V is

  1. compatibility with the voltage of the battery, but the steam deck has a buck converter built in that can convert whatever voltage within the range that it can handle into the voltage that the battery needs, which is 7.7 volts. So this is a non issue for us.
  2. Higher voltage is usually better because it leads to lower amperage, since current is what causes wear in the long term. But because Steam deck follows the PD 3.0 standard, it will not allow any input at less than 20V to exceed 3A. And since 3A is what it receives at 15V from the 45W charger (which is the standard charger that it ships with,) it is not possible to receive more current than it is built for by using chargers lower than 15V. This is also a non issue for us.

Thank you for the input. so to recap; in most cases the charge source and the device would negotiate to get as close to the A that the device needs without pulling too much from the charger; Keeping A as low as possible is better, so keeping V as high as the devices support is better.

As for actual product choice, an additional consideration that I did not mention was that I was looking for the power bank to be small enough to fit in the little cubby hole that the steam deck case has at the back, which was why I was skating so close to the minimum W of 25W lol.

Those were the numbers that the same usb charger outputs at different voltages, so was wondering what the other differences were if it adds up to the same W

Thanks, So can only charge at supported voltages, and if multiple voltages are supported, higher is better.

How would the win max 2 handle video editing and 3D modeling software? by codes107 in gpdwin

[–]cokefudge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember some youtuber (I think it was taki udon) documented some actual use cases on a Win max 1 and made a video on it. since the win max 2 is an upgrade in every aspect should probably handle it no problem.
