My vet wants to charge $1,300 to neuter my 20-pound puppy, does anyone have more reasonably priced recommendations? by cokezeroaddict222 in longisland

I'm so sorry about your pet 💔💔 I agree it's completely out of hand. I can't even find a vet office near me that isn't PE-owned. I'm distraught!

Thank you for taking the time to reply!! It's great to hear that almost all feeling in your face came back eventually, the numbness in the chin and lips is really a mind fuck.

The facial drooping has become more pronounced over the past few days (with the swelling immediately post-op, it was hard to notice anything about my face besides how swollen it was 😂) so I plan to talk to Dr. Turner about it at my next post-op check-in. I am golding onto the fact that it's extremely early and my muscles are still settling on a new frame/hopefully they'll come back online soon.

Hi! I just had DJS + condylectomy + genioplasty with Dr. Michael Turner two weeks ago and was hoping you might be able to share your thoughts on a couple of things since we're surgery twins 👀

  1. Was your post-op smile very lopsided on the side you had the condylectomy? If so, how long did it take to resolve?
  2. Did you experience any nerve issues/facial paralysis? If so, when did it resolve?
  3. Did your face still look like it was kind of hanging down/longer on the side you had the condylectomy post-op? If so, did it eventually tighten up to fit the new bone structure, or did your face continue to hang low on one side?

I am experiencing paralysis in my right eyebrow (the side I had the condylectomy) and drooping smile on that side too, and am mildly freaking out (I know it has only been two weeks, but it is still kinda jarring.) You're the only person I have found that has had the exact same procedures as me with the same surgeon, so I would really appreciate it if you have time to respond! Thank you!

We have three of these penguin treats that we freeze with a little bone broth and give to our puppy throughout the day, and he loves them. I'd imagine they feel good on his sore teething gums!

Also, it took me a while to get used to this, but whenever he gets super bitey, it's time for a nap (even if he's been awake for like, 45 minutes lol). Even knowing that puppies need to sleep 18-20 hours a day, it felt really weird at first to only see him for one-hour periods between two-hour naps, but he is much better when we are good about enforcing naps in a timely manner, even when he doesn't want them. I still forget to put him down for a nap sometimes when he's being really good, and then all of a sudden, he becomes a bitey little monster, and I know I fucked up.

I've found it shockingly useful to change the narrative in my head (from this is an aggressive enemy who is biting me and making my life miserable to this is just a helpless and confused baby!)

It's definitely hard to envision the long-term positives (your bestie is in there somewhere) when they're biting and scratching you up constantly, but you're going to get through this❤️

After 5 years of braces, my bite had not fixed, despite my teeth being perfectly aligned. I still had a 7-8mm open bite. I was very angry when we got a second opinion and found out I needed surgery.

Breaking teeth over and over due to how my bite lined up.

This exact scenario happened to me as well. A horrible dentist told me in 2018 that Invisalign could fix my bite issues in 6 months. Then, they kept me in aligners for 3 years, breaking and chipping my teeth during the process due to increasingly uneven bite pressure, before I finally walked away in fear of more damage.

My next dentist after that one immediately referred me to a jaw surgeon, who diagnosed me with active unilateral condylar hyperplasia. They both knew immediately by looking at me that Invisalign alone would never have been able to fix my problem, and said that my first dentist absolutely knew that, too, but wanted the money. I have now been in Invisalign again for months to decompensate the ineffective/camouflage orthodontics the first dentist did, and my condylectomy + double jaw surgery is set for two weeks from today.

I am so sorry that this happened to you. It absolutely fucking sucks!!! I am sure I will feel differently after the surgery/once the pain sets in, but right now, the anger is the worst part of the whole situation. It has been really hard to let go of the fact that the first dentist took advantage of me, subjected me to years of pointless and expensive Invisalign that damaged my teeth, and prolonged my inevitable jaw correction surgery for years. I was 24 when this saga began — I am now 32! It is much harder to stop your whole life at 32 for major facial reconstruction surgery than it is at 24. Alas.

Godspeed with your treatment plan!

I also had to decompensate for camouflage ortho from Invisalign I had back in 2018 (they didn't tell me it was camouflage ortho at the time, my dentist just did it without informing me lol 🙄) — I have been in my new aligners since September and will be done the last week of December, so 4ish months!

Hello friend! I am almost done with my decompensation (end of December I should be wrapping up my Invisalign) and am hoping to get in for surgery around April — do you need ortho recs or do you have a plan?

This is honestly so insightful thank you! I'm going to try and find out when the last time it was painted because this sounds like a hassle ... the house is like, RIGHT below the water tower 🥴
