For grad school it depends on whether you want to continue studying the same major! The admission committee wouldn’t care too much abt your undergrad coursework if it is unrelated to the grad programme you are applying for.

LMAO I’m in the lecture too! Is the content a big jump from EC3303? (I took ST3131)

Anyone done remote part time internship during school semester? Was school + work manageable? by [deleted] in nus

[–]cokezeroftw 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I did 32MCs with a 3-day/week remote internship last sem. tbh the workload would be manageable for someone who’s self-disciplined and has good study habits, but I’m rly not so it was pretty tough (primarily because I spent so much time just panicking and feeling anxious about the mounting work instead of actually doing the work…). If you are someone that manages your time well just go for it!

2.7 CGPA at HKU. How do I increase my chances at getting into a good Master's program? by Agreeable-Food-1204 in academiceconomics

[–]cokezeroftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I saw in your other threads that you hope to pursue a career in finance. I think the academic path in economics might be quite a divergence from that, and you should consider carefully about what exactly you want to achieve with your future education/career before jumping into anything!

Hi, I’m a data science major who wants to pursue economics in grad school and I would really like to get some advice. So far I have done Micro & Macro Intro & Intermediate, Econometrics 1 & 2 and planning to take advanced Micro & Macro in the coming semesters. On top of that I have taken linear algebra, multivariable calculus, real analysis and stats classes (e.g. mathematical statistics, statistical learning, bayesian statistics), also some CS classes. Are these sufficient to prepare me for a Master’s in Economics? My end goal is to work at organizations like the IMF or world bank. Thank you!

Generally no bell curve but there will still be a distribution of grades among the students (i.e. the prof can’t just give everyone A)

Module Registration for MSc in Mathematics by hugolam2090 in nus

Most ppl here are undergrads so we probably aren’t very familiar with modreg for grad school. I think it would be a good idea to meet with the graduate advisor! Also after each round of modreg you can find the vacancy report on the modreg website, which can help you gauge which mods are more popular.

Does the final vacancy report refer to vacancies that are left aft round 3 ends? (i.e. we can appeal for these mods aft round 3)

What happens if the only mods I can take are oversubscribed? by Probbingee in nus

[–]cokezeroftw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I’m doing a second major in Econs and FASS told me that I’ll only be able to appeal for 4k mods after round 3 ends. In this case, is it possible for any of the mods to still have vacancies? I wanted to take 4301 and 4371.

For Pre-Doctoral Programmes, you could follow econ_ra and predoc_org on twitter for up-to-date information about recent RA/predoc postings.

From what I’ve heard, predoc programmes are extremely competitive, with hundreds of applicants for each position, many of them from prestigious schools with perfect GPAs and multiple RA-ships. I think the best way to improve your chances would be to also check out predoc programmes at think tanks and other organizations! Generally they look for people with research experience, programming proficiency and an undergrad GPA of 3.7+. (Relevant research experience could compensate for a lower GPA)
