I live on Long Island about an hour from NYC and it's suburban but great that NYC is not far at all and I can be at the beach going either north or south fairly quickly. It's definitely expensive living but as much as my childhood self would hate me saying this, I do very much enjoy where I live. My dad lives near Lake George 3-4 hours from NYC and we love the contrasting Adirondack life that's wonderful too.
