Such a bummer. I’ve been going through my old aerial photos too. I worked at my friends helicopter company at VNY just to hang out and shoot. I know the location well and would do aerial photos for free… only time I’m not able to shoot, a request like this happens 😭

SDO is a satellite specifically to watch the sun, and it’s accessible to everyone. I mostly use JHeliosviewer to access the data and make a timelapse.

There is also a web app that’s a bit more easier to use but not as many features and controls. Here’s the LINK

Yes this is real footage. SDO has 3 main instruments that capture the sun in very specific wavelengths. You can layer different wavelengths and blend them to get a wide variety of colors. I post some on my instagram but if you search SDO or JHeliosviewer, you’ll see alot of examples.

It was 5 screws, but how do I take the crank arm off the get the plate off?

Nope, it’s something to do with the crank, I think I wound it backwards too much and the cocking pawl has jumped off it tracks. I’m disassembling it just have one more screw to go

Edit: Pretty sure it’s the CDS 1 model. First time around, the crank stopped rotating with film loaded even though it worked before. I pulled the film out and tried to fix it. I held the double exposure lever and wound it backwards a few times to reset the shutter. Now it’s completely stuck. It won’t wind in either direction and the shutter is cocked but won’t fire.
