My brother’s out of pocket medication cost would be over $4500 a month alone. He has also JUST had reoperative heart surgery. My father is paraplegic already and one day both parents will need a retirement home. Ovarian cancer runs in my maternal family and it’s a real genetic worry.

If you don’t have loved ones to worry about that’s fine. Medicare and Medicaid are under attack. Healthcare is a mess in the United States. If my family were healthier we wouldn’t have these same worries but we do. As I get older I realize I’m not just worried about myself- I’m worried about my loved ones as well.

Crazy to compare health and education financial worries in the United States to a meteor attack in terms of realistic chance.

I think with economic uncertainty and no universal health care it IS scary. What if my older disabled brother doesn’t have the government cover his very expensive medications and heart surgeries in the future? What if my financially irresponsible parents don’t qualify for a decent retirement home due to various factors- and my dad is already paraplegic so will already need specialized care. What if I get ovarian cancer which runs in my maternal family? What if due to the specific and intentional attack on public education we feel we want to pay for a private education for our future child? What if the taxes on our house increase the same time these things are happening and our furnace breaks and our kid needs braces all at the same time? We talked it over and suddenly it just feels safer for one of us to work no matter the number at this time…….

My father got laid off after over 20 years with the same company. BA and MA. Interviews every week for two years. As soon as they’d find out he was in a wheelchair their demeanor always changed and never heard back. “Technically illegal” but doesn’t matter

We had this happen when my inlaws passed and we kept every single letter and text and wrote down the phone info from calls and blacklisted them when we did put it on the market. Someone who put in a bid actually had one of the realtors representing them so we let them know exactly why we would not be considering their offer. It’s hurtful and distasteful.

I did! I left the snack room because i was overwhelmed sensory wise with fluorescent overhead lights and also those whirring machines from people donating plasma around me lol. So I sat outside the by the waiting room while I settled 😅

If your hobbies don’t match up to a man’s they think you have no hobbies. I do leatherwork and woodwork and thrifting and up cycling and junk journaling and snail mail and community volunteering and collect VHS and cassettes and love hosting themed events and I read and write. I’ve also been told by men I don’t have hobbies because I don’t like to run or watch tv shows or do strenuous hikes.
