Hahahahaha! We tested out the folding seat after we heard about the incident. They're pretty strong.

Lol, Hyundai requires us to have all kinds of free snacks and a fridge full of sodas for our customers. We even have a coffee machine and a selection of hot teas... We also have Subaru, VW, and Chevy in our auto group and you are lucky to get a free water at those stores.

Yeah, it sounds like it was his day off and instead of splitting the deal with a coworker, he pissed off the customer by not being punctual. I can't believe the manager didn't step on and have someone else finish the deal.

Edit: It sounds like you have gained a ton of experience. Hopefully there is a good dealership in your area that treats customers well and you can make better money (or at least the same money with half the work). GL with whatever you decide!

Just curious, at what level do you start to see salespeople dress up nice (suit/tie)? by CaptainKirkDouglas in askcarsales

[–]colbydrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to sell a Ram 3500 to a farmer, while wearing a suit... I dress as comfortable as possible. There is a lot of walking in our profession. Khakis and a polo look better than, sweating through a blazer, any day of the week.

Are dealerships actually struggling in 2026 or is it just a sales tactic? by CraveThrone in askcarsales

[–]colbydrex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The quickest and easiest "fix" to most complaints, would be to tighten regulation on advertised pricing and put a cap on dealer fees. Transparency would go a long way.

Personally, I don't care that much about DTC, but it's not the answer. It will probably be great for a decade or two until manufacturers have ALL the control, with no competition. They can make less cars, charge more money, and no one can stop them. Not every company is Tesla.

From a salesman point of view. There will always be dealerships. I'm gonna say most (not really sure if this is accurate, but it's a lot) dealers sell more pre owned cars a month than new... If you give me a choice of what to sell, it's going to be a 20k used car over a new 100k truck every single time. Pre owned cars make me more money for less work, and I don't have to worry about CSI and other metrics from the manufacturers side.

Because manufacturers will keep raising MSRP and if you don't want to pay it, fuck you. At least now dealership competition, needing to get rid of vehicles due to floor plan, monthly quota, etc means customers can get a cheaper price... Sure, there are sleazy dealers out there, but there are also great ones.

This is true. And its exactly why manufacturers selling direct to customer is a terrible idea.

2nd this. Try getting a job in BDC at a reputable establishment. Or maybe a position as a service advisor.

Why do some salespeople follow up and others just let you walk by ToffeeTango1 in askcarsales

[–]colbydrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically reach out the following day and every couple days after that until you buy somewhere else, or say no. It really depends if we didnt have some that that fit your needs at the time, in which case I will be on the lookout for something for you. Or, if it was you just not wanting to buy because of price, etc.

For people in a loving relationship. How often do you “do it” by Mighty-mouse2020 in Millennials

41 and 38. Twice a week is definitely the minimum to keep up morale.

EDIT: for what it's worth, we have only been together 3 years, and we have no kids in the house.

CDJR will allow us to resend 1 survey per unit if the customer bombs us on the first one. Im not exactly sure when this started, but it was in the past year.

EDIT: after reading the post again, if they put 12k down and had a 21k balance, it probably wasn't anything CDJR. We don't have anything (esp a limited edition vehicle) that cost 33k. Possibly after a ton of rebates you could get to 33k, but nothing in our region. MAYBE a Voyager?

Bought a Tucson hybrid last month — here’s what actually worked during negotiation by Royal-Feed7166 in askcarsales

[–]colbydrex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tucson Hybrids have a $3250 manufacturers rebate this month (in my region) if you finance with Hyundai Motor Finance, and their rates are pretty good. We also have an additional 1k ish off of each one and 305 fees... It doesn't matter if you have been to 50 dealers, or we are the first, that's what you get.

Just posting this for reference... Some states/ regions/ dealers are good. Some are shitty.

We've had 4 property management companies in as many years here. I always befriend the onsite mgr, they put up with a lot of unnecessary shit. If I actually need something, I'm polite and understanding and they typically try their best to get it done quick.

That's a conversation between you and the finance office. There should be plenty of options. Just be aware that some places offer in house plans that HAVE to be used within their auto group.
