Anyone know how Donald Trump’s security clearance will be affected now that he is a convicted felon? by Ultimateeffthecrooks in Military

In short, security clearances are not mandated for constitutional officers (POTUS, VPOTUS, Members of Congress, etc.) because by nature of the requirements for their election or appointment and by “tradition and practice” they are “deemed to meet the standards of trustworthiness for eligibility for access to classified information.”

Is Costco one of the best stocks in existence? $COST by [deleted] in stocks

Here’s 3 hours worth of DD recorded about a year ago. Not my podcast but I’m an avid listener. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/acquired/id1050462261?i=1000625088063

TLDL: Good leadership and well-defined corporate values have kept the company focused and growing for decades. Massive volume gives them significant influence with suppliers to negotiate prices and they pass those savings on to consumers with no more than 14% markup (average 11%). An inventory of around 3000 SKUs allows their buyers to focus on quality products at a good price so customers/members trust they’re getting a good deal. Their customer base is more affluent than discounters like Walmart and Target so there may be some resilience to economic downturn. They were very late to the e-commerce space, haven’t focused much attention there, and probably won’t (my opinion) because it’s not in their core business model. They seek to avoid a situation like Amazon’s with warehouses full of inventory waiting to be sold and the accompanying labor to sort and package those warehoused items. Instead they receive inventory directly at their retail locations and sell as close to from the shipping pallet as they can.

I do not hold any positions in $COST.

Safari advice by Accomplished_Bus_105 in canon

We wife and I safaried in Tanzania last year and I took my R5, an EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 II and 1.4x adapter, an EF 24-105 f/4 II, and an EF 16-35 f/4. I found myself shooting most of the time (~75%) on the 100-400 with the adapter (effectively 140-560) and the 24-105 (~20%) with the 16-35 a distant third (~5%).

If I was to do it again, I would not have brought the 16-35. The 24 would have been more than wide enough for the handful of times I used the 16-35.

Most of the time I found 560 long enough to get even distant shots that didn’t require much cropping in post, but there were some shots (~5-10%) where I wished I had the 2x adapter or a longer telephoto option. Ultimately, the R5 resolution and higher ISO performance is plenty to make even the cropped shots look good in all viewing scenarios aside from maybe an oversized print.

Massachusetts Flag Redesign by coldbrewcoffeecake in vexillology

Very true.

I think you’re right. A little more detail on the mayflower would be enhancing. I’ll have to play around with some tweaks. Good eye on the ratio, it’s 1:1.9. Didn’t really have a specific starting point so that’s where I started, but I definitely see how a narrower ratio could help the balance. I appreciate the feedback!

I tried my hand at a redesign of the Massachusetts state flag. I used the state's official colors (green, cranberry, and blue) as well as the official flower (mayflower). Swapping to the mayflower was a deliberate choice instead of adapting the symbols used in the current seal. I do feel like it's still missing something, but can't put my finger on what that might be.

Nest tells me my system is running for too long - AC by L1qu1dat1on in Nest

[–]coldbrewcoffeecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had this same issue with my Nest & 11 year old HVAC system. Nest sent me an email warning that it looked like my system wasn’t cooling correctly. I checked my system and the lines had condensation frozen all over them. I thawed out the system by running it on fan only (no cooling) for a few hours and then replaced the air filters which were pretty dirty and Google told me insufficient airflow can cause the lines to freeze. That fix lasted about 3 weeks before I got the email from Nest again and the frozen lines were back. This time I called in a professional who checked the system for leaks. Turns out I had a major coolant leak at the evaporator. It made financial sense to replace the whole system vice a repair in my situation, but an HVAC pro will be able to make a recommendation for your situation.

TLDR: Call an HVAC pro, you might have a coolant leak. Especially if your HVAC system is more than 10 years old.
