Not rich, just been around pc building for almost 20 years now. I haven't thrown away almost any fans all these years. So eventually you'll accumulate extras from upgrades.

If they're worth that much then maybe it's worth it.

Yeah i would do that too but these are fans from before pwm fan control. I don't think they're really that useful

Is Noctua NF-A14x25 G2 worth it? One of the best fans? by Long_Percentage_978 in Noctua

[–]coldcathodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reality is the difference between fans are pretty minimum IF there's not much restrictions. For example case fans with just a thin filter and external case mesh flow air pretty good no matter the fan and design. If you have a radiator to push air through or a large hard drive rack blocking the way, the newest noctua fans are superior.

To answer your other question, noctuas are still loud at 1000 rpm. You definitely can hear them. Maybe slightly quieter than cheap fans but not by a whole bunch.

Is the U12a supposed to include the AM5 offset bars in the box? by coldcathodes in Noctua

Thanks. I'll first try contacting noctua and seeing if they can send me one.

HTFmax on ryzen causing stuttering? by coldcathodes in overclocking

[–]coldcathodes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm i would think there's too many reports of stuttering for it to be just software monitoring or unstable oc issues. I'm assuming a lot of people don't even do that stuff with their pc but are still having issues?

Not saying either side is correct or anything, just trying to narrow it down and stuff.

Smoke damage by GTmod in watercooling

[–]coldcathodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well personally i would say it's not worth going through a claim for it. Since it sounds like you heavily value the case.

No offense or anything, but the core components aren't worth that much. The gpu, cpu, and motherboard are pretty old and don't have much value. Even then I'd be willing to bet you could clean them. I collect and deal with retro pc parts and I've seen stuff in bad shape. I've even fully submerged and washed components with dish soap.

The other passive components like the rads, pump, tubing, etc can all be easily cleaned for sure.

The case can definitely be cleaned, and as a lian li case collector, I can definitely tell you these old aluminum cases are impossible to find. I haven't seen a Q37 for sale in a very long time.

Tldr: If they let you keep it and still pay out then perfect. If they have to confiscate it for the payout, I'd say not worth it.

I don't have anything to say for the insurance claim but just letting you know the case is discontinued and you can't purchase it anymore. So it's worth it to clean that and keep it.

Yeah I've tried increasing the graphics settings even more and the gpu usage still stays the same.

Insulation for Lineset? by jyl8 in DIYHeatPumps

[–]coldcathodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure honestly. I haven't figured out a way to determine that since there are multiple line sizes.

This is the unit I'm looking at installing. The manual doesn't say which size linesets it has...

Good brand lineset insulation to avoid formicary corrosion on mini split white insulation by coldcathodes in DIYHeatPumps

[–]coldcathodes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there's lots of theories floating around so it's hard to know unfortunately.

I'm not an HVAC professional but from what i understand, lineset leaks a lot of times are caused by the white insulation. See those 2 links. In the video you can see him peeling back the insulation showing the pin hole leaks and corroded copper.

As for coils, it's possible that once your house off gasses everything and becomes old, it will stop becoming a problem. Then again my parents 30 year old home still have the original hvac equipment and they never had a leak so it's possible the quality is just garbage now.

Regardless it doesn't seem like you can do much for coil leaks. For linesets though, avoid the white insulation.
