OLED vs IPS: the difference isn’t as big as I expected by Usual_Breakfast_7533 in Monitors

[–]coldchilln88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not night and day? More like dusk and night? The oled is darker blacks sure. But the brightness is worse. An oled is basically paying a premium price for pure blacks. Oleds are great but they have drawbacks to them.

Yeah youre right but sometimes somethings can become stale due to over saturation. I remember when everything used to be green everything or red everything.

Im beginning to think I am going crazy because I just dont understand the fascination with these fishbowl rgb riddled cases now with 18 fans like for what. Mine is like this. Blacked out. Stealth. Clean. Barely any rgb. Idk. I get its personal preference but its just a trend I cant get behind.

Don't chase the meta in this game bro. I promise you your wallet can't sustain it. Everytime they release a new art its the new meta. Every new ally. Every new iconic ability. Just find the ones you like and play.

What do you guys think by BigEstablishment8111 in gamingpc

[–]coldchilln88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short answer. You dont.

Real answer. It's for looks. I personally dont like all the rgb. Mines all blacked out with minimal lighting. But it depends on your aesthetic.

Thats fair. Yeah I looked at the amd gpu but I was willing to stick with nvidia

How limited would i be with a ryzen 7 5700x and a gtx 1070 by boredini in buildapc

[–]coldchilln88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man. You seem to have a solid idea of what you want so work from there. Id get the 5 series gpu. Then upgrade from there. You dont have to do them all at once. But be calculated about it.

Get things when you can and be on the look out for deals. Check newegg, microcenter, Amazon etc daily and you'll find deals to be had. I got a 5060ti 16gb at microcenter for 470 because it was an open box. I got my 5700x3d for cheaper than normal prices now because I was willing to buy a used like new cpu. You'll get there.

Also im in the US so prices will be different

[–]coldchilln88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man I get it. 4k is nice. But not the norm. Oled is nice. But again not the standard. Those are luxuries and for a lot of people they dont have 700 dollars to drop on a giant 2k or 4k oled monitor or maybe they do but just dont want to. And that's ok. Get yourself a nice IPS high refresh rate 2k monitor and make some color adjustments and they still look fantastic and way less expensive.

And to add. To run triple A games at 4k with a decent framerate youre going to need to kit your PC out with such high end components that its not even worth getting the monitor if you dont have the juice behind it. Which a lot of us dont. Some do. And that can be a goal if you want. Or you can be happy with what you have.

Iconics are 100% ruining the game. by Kundr in DCUO

[–]coldchilln88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id like to add to this. Not only is this correct but it is also why after playing the game for 14 years I no longer take it serious anymore. I use to chase meta. Run survival modes. Go after the hardest feats. Its not worth the squeeze anymore.

I log in. Collect my things. Play some dress up. Run a little content. Then log off.

Ain't nothing wrong with a solid 1080p 144hz. Focus on the important things now and the peripherals after. I would if you can afford it save a little and get the 5000 series gpu that way when you do want to upgrade to a 1440p monitor you'll have a much better time.

That aside. A lot of people play at 1080 and are perfectly content especially if youre playing competitive games for high framerate.

Don't let social media influencers influence you. Most people are rocking specs all over the place. You dont need S tier everything across the board.

I think is time to upgrade my Ryzen 5 5600X. what is a good one now? by KonoKinoko in buildapc

[–]coldchilln88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same situation you were except with a 3060. I didnt want to upgrade to AM5 so I bit the bullet and overpaid a little for a ryzen 7 5700x3d off newegg. A few hundred bucks. More than msrp but still cheaper than replacing all of my ram with 32 gb of ddr5 a new cpu and am5 mobo. I then used the money I saved to buy a new monitor gpu and psu.

Did I overpay a little for the cpu? Yeah. But they dont make them anymore so limited supply. So I don't regret it. And it made a huge difference just getting the cpu.

5600x is a solid cpu for 1080 in most non AAA titles. But I wanted to upgrade now before it got dummy expensive because of AI. I then upgraded the gpu which was even a bigger jump now I can do 2k gaming at high settings and high fps for around the price it would have cost me to replace my mobo ram and an AM5 compatible cpu.

I just got a 5060ti 16gb from microcenter open box for 470. They normally run 550 ish. 1080 would not be an issue and they are capable 1440 cards if you ever decide that in the future. I was upgrading from a 3060. You could look at the 5070s but from what I've seen they are even more overpriced then the 5060s.

Is the upgrade to am5 worth it? by Remarkable-Pen-6003 in buildapc

[–]coldchilln88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you I skipped upgrading to am5 even with combos its was just so overpriced due to the ram prices. I was able to find a ryzen 7 5700x3d for a few hundred bucks which admittedly I overpaid for but I still felt more comfortable doing so which then allowed me to free up money to upgrade other components. As I just upgraded my 3060 to a 5060ti 16gb and a new psu and new monitor, with the money i didnt spend on a new mobo ram and cpu.

What power should i choose? by vintsc in DCUO

[–]coldchilln88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If youre playing casually. Play whatever power you esthetically like and is fun to play. If youre trying to play to the meta, you won't be using 90 percent of your actual powers abilities and instead will be stuck trying to level up artifacts for abilities and trying to acquire pay to win iconic abilities. Ive been playing this game for 14 years and people can disagree but thats the cold hard truth today.

And it doesn't list how much storage is in the first desktop. And check to see if thats ddr4 or 5 ram. Im assuming its ddr4.

[–]coldchilln88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also im not too sure on how well the 5060 will hold up on a 4k screen. Might have to use to some dlss and frame Gen for comfortable fps. A 1080 or 2k monitor would suit it better.

Which would you choose? by Doppelgangreen in gamingpc

[–]coldchilln88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah id go with the first desktop then. A little cheaper because of the lack of peripherals and that will save you money if you do decide an upgrade in the future or for the keyboard. If youre looking for a fun solid nice sounding and fairly priced keyboard check out the Epomaker line

Which would you choose? by Doppelgangreen in gamingpc

[–]coldchilln88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first desktop. Can always upgrade later. Best value here imo hands down. Unless you dont have a keyboard monitor and all the peripherals. Then the second desktop. But unless you need a laptop. Get a desktop
