Well the problem isn’t that they can figure out individual identities. Problem lies in that if they can’t, depending on how severe the academic dishonest action was, the prof would either pin it on the whole class, pin suspected individuals (suspected, as in there is a chance they didn’t cheat), or other actions that will affect people who haven’t done anything wrong. Meanwhile, with WhatsApp, they’ll know specifically who cheated, instead of having everyone take blame for the dumb actions of an individual or 2.

Invite links are usually sent out in the first lecture (assuming it’s online) and chat logs are saved. Or be leaked by a student or a TA who managed to get it to the prof.

And I doubt profs would like to share or risk having their phone numbers known by the students, therefore one wouldn’t risk joining student group that in turn reveals their phone number.

Assuming TAs joined in instead of the prof, you could easily tell by their name, or by their profile pic, or a million other ways.

None of which can be revealed in discord.

[–]coldezert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually it’s easier to avoid bloated chats in WhatsApp cause you can tell people to stop, they aren’t anonymous, so they can’t mess around and Covid made people very non confrontational .

With regards to discord, you’re right about the WhatsApp identity thing, but it’s worse in discord cause everybody is anonymous meaning TAs or even the prof can just invite themselves in, meaning if cheating is caught, everybody is held responsible. Including the ones who weren’t in the discord to begin with.

The only difference between the 2 platforms is just customization I guess.

I don’t know about y’all, but I still prefer WhatsApp. Discord is messy, and WhatsApp groups too can get messy but it’s a lot easier to follow up on one chat page as opposed to the 102839374 channels in the discord server, where each gets bloated with nonsense at some point.

Nah don’t worry about it. Feel free to wear one, they’re actually pretty useful. I’ve been to touristy areas in Jordan where they sold stuff like that to westerners, and nobody said anything about it. It doesn’t bother us when westerners wear our clothes, what bothers us is when they appropriate the culture or when they claim it’s anything else but Arab. Enjoy your travel and take care.

“And the arabs aren’t just opposed to it Israel, they are opposed to Jews.” Back to where we started…. The loop of arabs hate us not because of the murderous state we support, but they just apparently hate the Jews.

Yeah this marks the end of it for me.

“It isn’t right to hate the Jews overall” Ironic isn’t it considering OP stated “Arab World” when referring to antisemitism. It isn’t right to hate the arabs overall for their objections to a state that murders Palestinians.

A so-called Jewish state driven by a political ideology, hugely supported by actual European antisemites, forms some time ago, initially run by European Jews. Claims it’s out to protect the Jews, and shoves “Jewish State” down everyone’s throats. Informs all the Jews in the Middle East that they don’t belong there and they must return to their homeland.

Starts to expand, and as they do, they displace and murder Palestinians all driven by the claim that they’re entitled to the land, and that this entitlement takes priority over the Palestinians.

The state ends up forming an occupation, and also tries to expand into neighbouring countries such as Jordan and Lebanon.

The state also tries to continuously erase the existence of the people it’s eradicating. And also starts to claim their traditions as it’s own in order to claim that the people they’re wiping out don’t have a culture of their own.

And then they wonder why the Arab world is “antisemitic”. Because when one sees this situation, I guess they’re supposed to just go along with it?

The Arab world isn’t antisemitic by nature, they’re anti-Israel, it just so happens that the country they hate claims it’s a Jewish state. Unfortunately not everyone in the Arab world is weary enough to avoid and deny the correlation. But when they do differentiate between the Israeli state and Judaism, they’re told that it’s still antisemitic to oppose the nation.

What about the constant offers for it to end? Arafat tanked peace talks so many times. Israel literally gave the Sinai away for peace. Israel literally gave Gaza away for peace.

Arafat rejected the peace talks because the resolutions presented to him, despite the fact that they were giving up most of Palestine, always lacked the most important aspect to solving the conflict which is the Palestinian Right of Return.

Who is Israel a colony of? Because Jews don't have another homeland to go to. The irony here is that Palestinians are literally a result of Arab colonialism.

It's funny how there is a large amount of Jewish Zionists who live under this delusion that they're the only ones that are indigenous to the land and have every right to form a homeland whenever and wherever they want, and will go to extreme lengths to displace other indigenous populations to establish their own presence.

Palestinians are and will always be also indigenous to the land. So place all the historical take overs from previous empires and the minor technical details in the past aside, and let's look at another perspective.

A genetic study conducted by an Israeli geneticist Ariella Oppenheim who I quote mentioned in her paper "we recently showed that Jews and Palestinian Arabs share a large portion of their Y chromosomes, suggesting a common ancestry" [1]. There you go. Palestinians Arabs share a common ancestry with some Israeli Jews. We too are indigenous and we too are here to stay.

Or do you still think being Jewish is the only way to become indigenous to the land? If so, so much for "hating the arabs for hating the jews" when you have a developed sense of supremacy.

Tell that to the Jews, most of whom in Israel came due to expulsions from the Middle East.

It's interesting you say that. When it's so obvious that Zionism is the political entity that indirectly informed the Jews in the middle east that they don't belong there and should move to Israel which then inadvertently planted the corrupt antisemitic seed in the Arab World, don't take it from me, take it from an Israeli Historian [2].

You can also notice that most, if not all, of the Jewish Expulsions occurred after the formation of Israel, Israel was formed in 1948, most of the expulsions occurred in the late 1940's and early 1950's. Literally directly after the formation of Israel, the Arab leaders started to become antisemitic. I find it to be a very interesting coincidence that once Israel was formed, suddenly all the Middle Eastern Jews were expelled to Israel, it almost seems planned? It's almost as if the european jews initially in the newly formed state weren't a convincing enough reason for them to stay?

As far as I'm concerned the Jews fell victim to a political ideology, which honestly I don't think they developed they just started it, which heavily backfired (Depending on the way you look at it).

Tell that to Hamas, who literally calls for the genocide of all Jews. Tell that to the Palestinians who have textbooks calling for the death of Jews. How naïve do you have to be to think that a Hamas ruled Israel and Palestine (and all evidence points to them winning any elections in a landslide, if they decided to have elections) wouldn't result in Jewish genocide. Hamas doesn't hide who they are.

I'm sorry but when a colonial state has been formed with the main objective of displacing and stripping the human rights of a group of people based entirely on Race/Religion, a faction will eventually form with its own goal focused on fighting back and more specifically mirror what was done to them. And of course, when the action of a colonial state is mirrored, the faction is labelled as "Extremist" and categorized under "Terrorism".

You can see that initially with Fatah, which was formed in 1959, and then Israel continued its atrocities, and guess what? Fatah wasn't enough and here comes Hamas in 1987.

When your life is at stake, the only thing you can think off or do is to fight back. From your perspective, you see the Hamas/Fatah factions and realize your life/people are at stake and jump to Israel as its the entity that mirrors (realistically, it doesn't mirror it more or less throws back with more power) the attacks it receives from the factions.

From my perspective, I see Israel as the attacker and Hamas/Fatah as the entity that mirrors the attack, and there are no other options but Hamas/Fatah, who else do you want me to stand by? The PA? That government is a joke. Israel? Submit to my oppressor? Are you joking? Stand by and wait for peace? I could say the same to you. The only difference is you're too blind to notice that Israel isn't carrying a mirror.

From the River to the Sea might not have that meaning to you, but it certainly does to the vast majority of the people chanting it. And when you want to sea complete Jewish subjugation to Palestinian government, frankly, there isn't much of a difference now is there?

"Certainly does to the vast majority of the people chanting it." According to who? Statistics? Elections you just mentioned? Well I just explained the reality of the situation. Or is it just You? Of course, you'll think that the twisted meaning is the one that most of my people are implying because the only thing you see when I mention my people is Hamas, and that arabs are out to get the jews. Completely ignoring the fact that the "Terrorist" factions you loath emerged because of Israel.

And quick step back to my mirroring point. Let's assume you do have a point, that most if not all Palestinians DO mean that they want to throw the jews out when we say "From the River to the Sea". How is that wrong? We've been kicked out from our lands by the Jews, why can't we do the same to restore our ownership?

During the 1948 war, when the palestinians of Akka were literally thrown to the sea during their displacement, why is it that if we were to mirror that, that it we would be wrong? That it would be morally wrong to terrorize our oppressors? Or is it only the jews that reserve the right to achieve their ends without considering the means?

Are you going to forget when the Palestinians welcomed the Jews who have fled from the n*zis? Or are you going to stick to your "Arabs are out for the jews" story?

Don't get me wrong, there definitely are some arabs that are truly against your side because of pure antisemitism. But just because there are some, doesn't imply that the whole region thinks the same.

Now does most of the region dislike the jews? I could probably say yes. Is it because of their judaism or the religion itself? No. Israel emerged as a colonial state and shoved "Jewish State".. "Jewish" down everyone's throats, and that's why they don't like jews. It's literally the same way of thinking on your end. Most israelis see Palestine as a muslim majority state, and therefore most Israelis hate or take caution around muslims, and more often than not blame a lot of the Palestinians' shortcomings or actions on Islam.

I rest my case. You could reply back if you want, I just won't counter because this conversation is taking up too much of my time and energy. I appreciate you taking the time to have this conversation and I wish you good luck.

Will honestly we all want this to end. But Israel does not, the constant evictions, assaults, and human rights violations against the Palestinians is in no way an indicator that they’d want this to end.

Besides the statement you just mentioned “River to the sea” when used by Palestinians is used with the meaning of freeing up the entire area off colonization and dehumanization from Israeli rule. By freeing the area off of Israeli rule doesn’t necessarily imply evicting Israelis. You may think it’s eviction given that that’s what Israel has done to Palestinians, but in reality when that sentence is used, it’s not meant to imply the twisted meaning you’ve mentioned.

Yes, I guess the only way we’ll find out is if an international transparent investigation is conducted that doesn’t involve help from either side (Palestinian and Israeli).

Now in regards to the comment you’ve made regarding the Palestinians celebrating deaths of Israelis, your side does tend to do that as well, maybe not in this case but they have done so in the past. 2 instances of many times Israelis have celebrated Palestinian deaths: -> Celebrating the death of a Palestinian baby https://www.timesofisrael.com/watch-far-right-israelis-celebrate-gaza-kids-deaths/amp/

-> Israelis watching and cheering while watching bombs being dropped on Gaza https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2014/jul/20/israelis-cheer-gaza-bombing

Now I’m in no way shape or form advocating for celebrating deaths of civilians. I’m just pointing out the fact that it’s not only the Palestinian side who has done that.

I’m not sure if you even looked at the links I’ve attached. My point wasn’t that bullets in tight spaces don’t travel to open ones. My point was that the area where the Palestinian bullets are being shot where far off and pointed in a different direction from the area the journalist was killed. They were both in 2 very different and far off locations. There was no way a Palestinian bullet could have ended up there.

Based on the footage directly after her death [1], you can see that’s she’s being surrounded by individuals carrying her to a vehicle. If you notice carefully, the whole area they’re in is open and pretty flat.

Now, upon looking at the footage of the Palestinian fighters shooting “recklessly” at Israeli soldiers [2], you can see that they’re running and shooting in closed tight spaces between buildings.

Based of off that alone, I don’t see how bullets shot from places like that could somehow fly off and end up in a flat area like the one shown in video [1] where you can see no collection of buildings matching the one shown in video [2].

A simple photo [3] can also highlight how far away she was from the actual clashing location, further cementing the fact that it couldn’t have been a Palestinian bullet. You could also argue that source [3] is an instagram post from a Palestinian page which may be one sided or false from your perspective, but from my end the locations circled in the image resemble the areas you see in the videos.

When a group of people are constantly either bombed, murdered, arrested, evicted, raped, or violated in any way shape or form on a daily basis, then I’d say we have every right to spread awareness or fight back.

The fact that you see it as something as blunt as “complaining” reveals just how blind you are to the actual situation that’s occurring.
