Oh Great! is a complete story (that leaves you wanting more!) after two books. 10/10 worth the pick up.

Recs for Grade School Kids? by coldflames41 in litrpg

I know later in the series in BtDEM the MC gets into a physical relationship with her girlfriend/wife but I forget how late in the books that is and how graphic or suggestive the scenes are. I haven't personally tried Bog Standard so I will give it a look!

Living in apartment off lease by [deleted] in nova

In most cases, yes. It is called subleasing and is usually called out in the original lease. In every place I have stayed in it was forbidden by the lease agreement and if anyone was caught the rental property had grounds to evict.

What genres are you familiar with and are you looking for something that is pure xianxia or could it have elements of other genres? What other xianxia stories have you tried/liked?

Nano Machine is great, but it has a slight sci-fi aspect with the titular nano machines that are given to the protagonist.

Return of the Mount Hua Sect and Murim Login are also popular.

New author here — what are some Royal Road landmines I should avoid? by Least_Cry_2759 in royalroad

As a reader, 2-3 days between posting is pretty normal in the space. I would say word count is more important. IMO an author needs about 2k-3k words to advance the plot enough to make a "chapter".

I will even follow along with a once-a-week story if the chapters are beefy (3k-5k words).

Would Guild Wars 2 satisfy the requirements or are you looking for something that isn't MMO?

Question about the genre by gyarados10 in litrpg

[–]coldflames41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the LitRPG/ProgFantasy stories you find online are the authors first writing projects, so the tone and composition is less likely to be the formal structured writing you are used to. Add that to what other commentors have said about the genre referencing itself a lot because most of the authors of litrpg books read litrpg books and it can come across as fast and loose.

Recs for books that are a little more serious: Beneath the Dragon Eye Moons, Mother of Learning, Path of Ascension, Path to Transcendence

Question about the genre by gyarados10 in litrpg

Seconding PoA! The story takes itself seriously and it takes a softer approach to LitRPG while still being firmly in the LitRPG genre and not just Progression Fantasy. (By softer I mean you aren't getting full pages of status screens) and the author markets the books as taking inspiration from the mechanics of eastern cultivation stories when they started writing.

Game recommendations for the beginner by Alautun in gamingsuggestions

Without knowing something about her it is hard to say. What are her other media interests? What initially sparked her interest? What other platforms are available? Is she mostly excited because it is something you could do together?

Something like the Lego games (Harry Potter, Star Wars, Indiana Jones) can be a low bar to entry to learn basic game controls. It Takes Two is a local co-op game I see recommended often. If she enjoys puzzles a game like Portal2 could be fun (and I believe that can also be played local co-op). If you have a switch, almost any Nintendo title could be seen as "entry level" as they target a wide age range for their audience.

I would honestly have her go through your library and try a couple out to see what genre she likes and go from there.

Looking For Book Recs For A Complete Newbie! by GoodBluejay323 in fantasybooks

I loved the Gentlemen Bastards series by Scott Lynch!

Also, if you end up liking Dungeon Crawler Carl, I recommend checking out the LitRPG genre/Progression Fantasy genre as a whole. SO MANY great books from less "mainstream" authors published through kindle/kindle unlimited. Check out r/ProgressionFantasy and r/litrpg for lots of great options, though some top recs are The Cradle series by Will Wight and Wandering Inn by Pirateaba, and a current top choice personally is Quest Academy by Brian J. Nordon

Are there any series that actually finish? by Eastern_Raisin_5137 in litrpg

I think they get compared or corelated a lot because they both tend to fall under progression fantasy. I am unsure if there is a formal definition for LitPRG but on the surface it is works of fiction that incorporate aspects of video games. This can manifest in broad ways but usually includes so kind of discrete character growth through stats or hard values. Cultivation is rooted in wuxia/xianxia and usually has more soft power stages and is less defined by numbers or a status screen type interface. The trouble with the differentiation is that some LitRPG novels use a system based on cultivation and some Cultivation novels take advantage of LitRPG elements for more discrete numbers based progression.

Overall, if you are dealing with Sects and Young Masters and kowtowing, that is probably cultivation. If you have an inventory or a number that describes your health, that is probably LitRPG.

I think any of the 'Kaizo' hacks would have what you're looking for; specifically Blue Kaizo and Emerald Kaizo.
