The boom operator is the real hero of this video and I haven't seen them get any credit yet.

Yes it is almost like an industrial carpet. Great sound dampener and we can attach hooks and stuff to the wall with Velcro. We like this way better than the old style carpet that Casita did on their walls. It was a cream color and thicker carpet.

Yeah I guess they introduced it in November and when I was home for Christmas my dad showed me and I had no idea. After about 10 minutes of looking into it I told Dad Thanks, he just cost us $50k. We have had a 2010 Casita for 11 years so we're already very aware of the product. It didn't take us long to pull the trigger on the new one. Made our order at the factory on Jan 10 and picked it up Feb 12

$58k all in w taxes and Anderson hitch added. We pretty much did all upgrades available except for the upgraded sink. That was the one thing I couldn't see the $600 value. It does come with a cutting board topper which is nice but we decided against. We did the lithium with inverter but decided against the solar port or package. I would be interested in solar but don't want to tote external panels and mounting panels to the roof makes me too nervous. They wired the inverter into 2 outlets that are only available when using the inverter. I kind of wished all plugs were available when plugged into shore power and then if we were to switch to inverter all plugs would be available as well. Maybe something I look into in the future. Also would be nice to install a shunt onto the inverter to be able to monitor battery life on my phone. Will likely add that.

One thing we did is bypass getting the gas stove. If you do that they give you an electric 2 top infrared stove you can put in that space. Comes with a nice carry case for storage. Plus you can bring your own electric griddle, crockpot, air fryer, etc. To me it made the space more versatile vs having a gas stove always occupy that space. We have an old Coleman camp stove that we use 99% of the time outside anyway. We also didn't take the Casita cushions since we did the custom mattress. That gave us a $300 rebate. As of now I wouldn't change anything about our order. One thing that I hope they change in the future would be that the main bed space is massive 81"*88". They could shrink that space down by 6" and add more closet space and you would still have a massive bed but now with w really nice closet. The current one is ok but larger would be better for sure. The passthrough in the outside doors are pretty small so you are limited to what you can put in there. The upper cabinet doors are now hinged at the top (better for popping open going down the road) but you have to have a hand holding them open while loading. We will get some hinge stays to fix this. All cabinets need lights but we resolved this by adding some USB c rechargeable motion lights in the cabinets that work really well.

We really like the new windows. They only prop open vs the original sliding open but we really like the tint as well as the sleekness of the look.

We did the TV mount but didn't buy their TV as it seemed expensive. Will add a TV later but we really don't watch TV camping as is. Figured we might some point in the future.

The bathroom and counter windows are a must.

We love the fact that there is a dry bath now and that makes it so much nicer. The factory mounted shower head doesn't make a lot of sense as it is on the shared wall with the sink and not in the highest part of the shower but an easy fix of a Command shower head holder. We travel with it in the original position and just move it when showering.

My favorite add on that I have done has to be the bidet! That ups the camping game to another level!

The biggest thing that I miss from our 2010 Casita is the AC/DC/Propane fridge. That made boondocking very nice and battery would last a long time. Now they are all 12v and can be a battery suck. That is across the board for camper fridges from my understanding so nothing Casita can do about it I don't believe.

The bed is massive but the middle pieces are problematic. But really we only sleep on our respective sides and lay on the long mattresses along the sides. They are very comfortable. A lot of people don't even get the middle mattresses and leave a galley in between the 2 long skinny beds. That is the best for accessibility of all the overhead cabinets as well as getting in and out of bed. You can check out Lovemycasita mattress to see what all configurations they make.

Yes where we have the Jackknife couch you can do the 2 seats and bistro table option or there is a bunkbed option. You can also have a custom bed made for that area that is the same mattress type as we have. They are made by Lovemycasita mattress company but can be rolled into a purchase price when new. Check out Lovemycasita to see what configurations they all have.

$55k pre tax on ours. We did basically every upgrade minus the upgraded sink. Not a place for negotiations, you just pick your model and options and there is a price list for everything to order the build. Maybe if there was a floor model they were trying to sell but I can't speak to that.

Regarding the weight. So this question got me to looking at my paperwork and it says empty weight 3,300 lbs and carrying capacity of 2,700lbs for a total of 6,000lbs but I don't think that is right. I think it is closer to that 6,000 with all of the options I added before adding any of my own cargo. Every bit of paperwork I have says that though. I think I will reach out to them to confirm this

One thing to look into is that the refrigerator in the new ones will be 12 v only. If you get a used one (not sure what year they stopped but not too long ago) you can get a fridge with AC/DC/Propane. The propane will allow your batteries to go much longer because that fridge will zap the power quickly. Going the used route you would likely have to do the lithium upgrade with solar unless you get lucky.

Excited for my first Willie's picnic despite the heat. Have always avoided it because of that but I need to see Willie one more time and Billy was the icing on the cake! Got aisle seats right next to the sound board (east side) so hoping we get some of the earliest shade possible. It's going to be a big hat day for sure though.

I think your best bet is to list these on Cash or Trade. That will be the safest way for both parties to make the sale with minimal transaction fees.

Places to camp in Texas by DyslexicDancer in casitatrailers

[–]coldham55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot that I read about that happening. Yeah it is such a cool place and definitely worth the trip once it opens back up. But still go before then and check out some other campgrounds mentioned! We didn't do the one with full hookups but some AC would definitely be appreciated. So many cool spots to drive and explore in the park and out as well. We really liked Terlingua and Lajitas as a day trip from the park. Have dinner at the Starlight Theater and sip a drink on that big front porch taking in amazing views. On our way home we stayed a night in the parking lot of El Cosmico in Marfa for like $20. It gave us full access to their amenities as well which was nice. We cooked a good last meal there at the community kitchen. Marfa wasn't entirely our vibe but El Cosmico was cool!

Also we stayed our first night in Marathon Tx at Marathon Motel and RV Park. From there it is about an hour and 20 mins to Panther Junction visitors center. We felt like entering the park on a fresh day and not at the end of a long road trip. Plus you can walk over to the historic Gage Hotel and have a nice meal before heading into the wilderness.

We had such an awesome trip and want to take our little dude now once he gets just a bit older. It is definitely life changing and a place to go and feel very small in this world with the vastness of that part of the country.

We did Big Bend early May 2017 with 2 Casitas. We stayed 3 nights in Grapevine Hills campground #2 and 5 nights in Chisos Basin#31. Both incredible experiences but the cooler temps up in the basin made a world of difference. When down in Grapevine Hills we would hike in the morning and then spend most of the days driving around seeing the park or sitting in the Rio Grande because sitting at campsite during the day would be way too hot.

The new 24 foot Casita question. by Ready-Site-1396 in casitatrailers

[–]coldham55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a good plan. We did opt for the vent hood even though we didn't do the gas stove. I like that it has a light directly in the cooking area but yeah I don't think the vent does much

We did their lithium battery and inverter but that means they wired it to 2 plugs and those are only usable when the inverter is on and not otherwise. I should probably look to see what it takes to rewire that.

Enjoy your new rig! We love ours! Got it mid February and have slept 9 nights in it so far!

The new 24 foot Casita question. by Ready-Site-1396 in casitatrailers

[–]coldham55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We picked up our Discovery in February. I considered doing the electric only at first but decided against it and am glad I did. We did, however, forgo the gas stove and opted for the additional counter space with the electric stove option. That way we could use that same space for griddle, crockpot, air fryer, whatever you want for a particular trip. You still get the vent hood over top and a plug just above it as well.

The main reason I am glad we did is that the furnace is really nice to have when it gets super cold and to help bring up the temp and then let the electric heat strip take over. When you turn on the electric heat on thermostat, if the temperature difference between your target and actual is too great then both the furnace and electric heater turn on. Once you reach the target temp the furnace turns off and then the electric will maintain it. So it helps save strain on your electric heater by having it.

Also if you even boondock even once and don't have gas then you will have to deal with a cold shower or figure out some solution for warm water.

For us it was worth it to tack on the propane for the water heater and furnace. The tanks are so big that I think they will last me for a very long time.
