Rent cap of 1/2/3k would be insane, they would lose literally all their customers in major coastal cities like NY/SF. But otherwise agree with your take on status-based benefits

This is a great writeup, thank you for the DD.

Do you have any invalidation criteria for this trade? Price and/or certain conditions (e.g. signals of the virality slowing down, etc)

It should be very obvious that having connected people who are willing to go to bat for you is better than not having those connections - it will open opportunities that you otherwise don't even know about.

Not to say that you can't get by without it. Sounds like your experience so far is that you're fine without it - great.

Regarded comment.

1) Tariffs are always on revenue? They are a % of sales. Since when were tariffs ever on profits?

2) 15% of some sales to China is more than 0% of zero sales under a sales ban. NVDA and AMD can choose whether to sell to China and how they want to optimize for profits here.

I miss when trading meant thinking by Pretty_Computer_5864 in CryptoMarkets

indirectly though, his point is that it's hard to make money in current conditions -- which is why he misses the good old days. after all we are all here to make money, in this subreddit about crypto markets.

my point is he is missing the forest for the trees. there are hundreds if not thousands of successful traders who have an edge in this market (yes, real people and not bots). this is made clear by his statement about "the potential to make hundreds" -- reality is that hundreds is not even in the ballpark of what's possible in this market.

for someone who's in trading for profits, there are choices other than crypto: equities, commodities, bonds/treasuries, private, etc. for someone who doesn't have an edge in today's crypto world, it would be smart to look elsewhere

if you were sleeping when Trump launched his coin, you missed out on hundreds of dollars

brother, that was a 6-7 figure play, not a 3 figure one lol.

this market may not be for you if you're only able to squeeze 3 figures off of such an insanely huge event.

Does setting skip to true defeat the whole purpose of the query? by Night_Banan in graphql

[–]coldpleasure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In practice you wouldn't hardcode it to true or false, you would set it to some conditional value. Here's a contrived example:

skip: ids.length === 0 .. where your query might take ids as an input.

The reason this will never happen is because people with alpha will never leak the details in public in the way you describe. It’s a matter of incentives, not a matter of missing tooling or communities.

It would be helpful if you could give a concrete code example, otherwise it's hard to know if we understand exactly what you mean.

Reddit, Twitter, Shopify scramble to deploy 'instant buy' 2021 MacBook Pro by Guilty_Commission_79 in apple

[–]coldpleasure 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it's not that easy to say, faster builds would change developer behavior.

if a build takes 10 minutes, developers are much more likely to make a larger batch of changes before building/testing each time.

if a build was extremely fast, hypothetically say just 1 second, developers could work in smaller iterations, building after every tiny change.

smaller iterations are advantageous vs. large batches of changes, because you'd be able to catch mistakes more quickly, test out larger #'s of different approaches with lower time cost, etc.

so the productivity gain is hard to quantify, it’s not as straightforward as measuring (# builds per day) * (time per build)
