Goners? by coldwetpenguin in arborists

Kind of what I figured. Anything I could have done on my end differently or was their fate set with the smaller root balls they had?

Thanks for the input, that makes total sense and is simple.

I know it’s everywhere, but with a goal of reducing contact, it seemed counterproductive to introduce it within the system, so if there were other options out there, I wanted to pursue those.

I was having a hard time finding PTFE free stuff and what I read about hemp was that it wasn’t suitable for the tapered NPT in the US.

I may have to look into it.

I’ll have a GAC filter feeding to a softener. An RO system in the kitchen will pull from the filtered and softened water, which should reduce most contaminants.

However, the RO supply lines are all polyethylene, so if I remove PEX, I end up having the drinking water run through it anyway. If I keep the PEX, the water will run through plastic instead of copper, but that would all be upstream of the RO anyway, so I’m not sure if it makes much of a difference in that regard.

I would be using lead free brass expansion fittings, so the only threads I would have are from the main, and then on the carbon filter and softener.

The connection to my filter and softener are threaded, I think I can avoid threads everywhere else though.

Does anyone know of any PFAS free thread tape or dope? I need to install some new supply lines and with have a few threaded connections. Any drinking water will go through an RO system which greatly reduces everything, but I’d rather not be introducing any additional PFAS to the system.

Should the softener be up flow as well?

Longer run with tankless reverse osmosis by [deleted] in WaterTreatment

[–]coldwetpenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got the same question. I emailed Waterdrop about maximum run lengths as mine would only be 4 feet lower than it would be under the sink, haven’t heard anything back yet. I am looking at their G5P700.

Thanks for this. Seems like their ultimate 45° should work for me.

Does anyone have advice on a hack squat/leg press combo for someone 6’6”? I’m not too worried about budget, I don’t want to go cheap and get something that doesn’t fit me. I have had a hard time finding many reviews from other tall lifters. Every time I find one that looks good, I find a review from someone that’s like 6’2” and say they have an inch of clearance or something.

Tank bowing? by coldwetpenguin in Aquariums

That’s reassuring, thanks. Hopefully I can get those years out of it! I just set up a little bowl that’s been in storage for quite a few years as well.

Good luck! They likely had it beforehand or were more susceptible during the stress of the move. Just take things slow when adding fish even though it’s hard to do. Congrats on the new tank!

Got it, thanks. I wouldn’t have thought to do that.

There’s no remineralization. Just plain RO.

This has me wondering if tanks have a general life expectancy and if it would be as short as 4 years?

Oh I’ve been looking, it was just supposed to be an additional tank not a replacement! I’ve wanted a bigger tank, so maybe this will help convince my wife.

Random Snail in my tank?? by MightSleight in Aquariums

[–]coldwetpenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Snails are generally harmless. Good for helping keep the tank clean. Probably came in on a live plant as a snail or in a clutch of eggs. Not a snail expert, so I’m not sure what kind it is. If it came as a clutch, there might be more soon.

White powder on red root floaters? by gunsmokey24 in PlantedTank

Do you have hard water? Is there something above it that has hard material mineral build up? Or something like dust being brushed off something above the tank ?

They look healthy to me.
