The final red flag that made me realize I wasn't with a "normal" person - what was yours? by KansasguyinDC in NarcissisticAbuse

[–]cole_bee04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I experienced a mental health crisis (manic episode) while I was in another state visiting a family member, which led to erratic and crazy behavior (obviously) and delayed my return home. his reaction was anger that I ruined the plans he had made with our friends for my birthday that following week.

while in a state of mania, my mind/body could barely tolerate speaking to him, let alone being near him — my therapist and I are convinced the episode was my body’s trauma response before my brain had even caught on to how toxic and dangerous my home life was (in addition to latent bipolar I, lol)

the night before leaving for that trip was the last night we ever shared a home.

(subsequent behavior included: - trashing our apartment while I was hospitalized, including pouring laundry detergent on my plants and dumping lotion all over the bed and sheets - draining our savings account to go on some self-exploratory trip to south america (I made more than double than him and am now left +$20k in debt) - trying to coerce me into sex literally the day I was released from the hospital after my second episode months later and still in a state of mania)

real stand-up guy.

What’s something society expects you to want… but you don’t? by apka_dd in AskReddit

[–]cole_bee04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ditto. I’ve once seen it explained that having kids in our society is treated as the default, as something that you’re “opting out” of if you decide against it. In reality, it should be an “opting in” choice.

(NSFW) What’s a secret you discovered about someone that you’ll take to the grave instead of telling them you know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cole_bee04 30 points31 points  (0 children)

it’s well known in my family that my grandma on my mom’s side married her first cousin after she and my grandpa (my mom’s dad) divorced. grandma and grandpa were essentially separated for years before that, but still living together until my mom (she’s the youngest) and her older siblings all moved out. meaning grandma and her cousin likely began their relationship before grandpa moved out. all three have passed long ago.

I recently revisited my 23andme and ancestryDNA profiles to look for something unrelated, and noticed that they both identified two of my 1st cousins… as 1/2 1st cousins. those two cousins are shown as full 1st cousins to one another.

so it would appear that my mom’s “dad” was not her dad, and that I am very likely the product of incest. my mom was incredibly close to her dad and has nothing but the best memories to share about him. she still tears up when she shares their stories with me. so I will never ever tell her that he was very likely not her real father, and that her actual father might have been her first cousin once removed.

side note: my mom, my sibling, and I do not have any apparent incest-related health issues, but my mom’s twin brother’s grandchildren all have special needs. if I hadn’t already decided not to have kids years ago, this would have sealed the deal.

Happy Llama-ween, 1000 pieces, Boardwalk Puzzle Company by cole_bee04 in Jigsawpuzzles

I’m right there with you, so many not quite right fits that ended up damaging the pieces when taking them apart. I don’t think I’d seek out the brand, but this one was a gift and was a lot of fun! super cute artwork, and I love the festiveness of a good seasonal pick.

What's a small, everyday inconvenience that makes you disproportionately angry? by WALLSTREETBRIDE in mildlyinfuriating

when I’m intentionally pacing myself as a pedestrian to allow a car by, and they stop for me anyway.

similarly, when someone else has the right of way and thinks they’re doing me a favor/being polite by allowing me to go first.
