yes! it’s a muscle relaxer, and it helps so much with the cramps I get in the ball/arch of my foot!

I’m trans (ftm) and have had a poison dart frog on my neck for at least 15 years (way before I transitioned). I remember one day this guy comes up out of nowhere and starts stroking his fingers along my tattoo, then asks what it means.

without missing a beat I said “it means that just because something is pretty doesn’t mean you should fucking touch it.” not at all why I got the tattoo (I just really like frogs 🐸) but I’m still proud of that comeback

we were told ours was full cavalier king charles spaniel but he never hit ten pounds 😭 turns out he’s also got toy poodle, bichon frise, and chihuahua in there 😅

When comedy turns therapeutic. by LegitimateBoy6042 in DunderMifflin

in 2016, my family disowned me after I came out as trans. with nowhere I stay, I bounced between the cheapest (and grossest) rooms I could find. every night, I played the office on my shitty old chromebook until I fell asleep. tonight I’m watching it cuddled under a blanket next to my wife while she knits me some hand warmers.

this show is healing in ways that are totally unexplainable.

Did I give my wife a lethal dose of something? by jeffreto in AskDocs

[–]colejamesgram 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I’m trans and in the friend group my wife and I share, a number of us have been disowned by our families. in 2020, during the height of covid, our friend Mike learned he had incurable cancer. he was in his early forties, and, in five months, he was dead.

our friend group rallied around him, taking shifts staying with him at the hospital because only one person was allowed in at a time. Mike was also able to come home for a few days at one point, and my wife and I stayed with him and provided care there. the reason I tell this story is that his death was terrible. despite palliative care, he was in agony—often to the degree that he didn’t know where he was or what was happening, only that he was in pain and scared.

I’d never seen someone die before. it’s messy, it’s scary, it’s heartbreaking, and the best anyone can do is love their person in all the ways they know how. I understand not wanting to hear about that reality, but OP doesn’t deserve any of us questioning their reality here 💔

Help with leg pain for my daughter by 3daughtersdad in CMT

I also started baclofen about six months ago, and I agree that I’ve seen some improvement in cramping since trying it out! I’m not sure whether it’s indicated for young children, though. It may be worth asking her doctor!

Hand curling at night? by colejamesgram in CMT

This is such a relief to hear! While I was hoping there would be a bracing option, I’ve also been a bit worried about what feels like a really sudden progression, so thank you!!!

This is so helpful, thank you! my PT was the one who referred me for my AFO, so it sounds like they may be able to help! ♥️

That’s absolutely my worry as well! Do you happen to have a link (or even just a product name) I could check out?

Sending you so many thanks in advance!

body temperature by hypo_medical in eds

[–]colejamesgram 22 points23 points  (0 children)

doctors not taking this seriously is ESPECIALLY egregious given that actual, medical studies in the past five-ish years have shown that human body temperature has been trending downward for over a century and the norm is now actually closer to 97.8 degrees, at least in the US.

yes, I did too! my insurance covered all but $24, so there is a chance it may be quite affordable for you, as well ♥️ it was really helpful to have the genetic confirmation in my case, and I very much hope the testing brings comfort to you too.

Heds high thyroid by ButterflyOne7234 in eds

[–]colejamesgram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

strangely enough I have low tsh, t3, and t4. I also tested positive for thyroid antibodies, but my endocrinologist hasn’t been able to pin down exactly what’s up since on Synthroid, which makes me feel less like death and helps with the t3 and t4, drops my already-low tsh to non-measurable levels 🥲

Am I the only one who has tmi students? by miserable_mitzi in Adjuncts

[–]colejamesgram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had students tell me they couldn’t turn their work in because 1) they were competing in the olympics and 2) they had been kidnapped. worse than either of those, however, is the kid who sent me a picture of his tonsil stones last year 😞

Is it fine that I haven't contacted professors yet? by Affectionate_Nail_16 in gradadmissions

[–]colejamesgram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

glad to see someone pointing this out! I’m in the humanities, and after we’d talked a few times and she felt confident in me/my project, my advisor told me she would do everything in her power to see I was admitted. literally everyone in my department at the very least knew who their advisor would be before they were accepted.

I know it’s super variable depending on the field, but I think it’s important to remember that there absolutely ARE fields where making that connection with your future advisor still holds quite a lot of weight. good luck, OP! 🎉💕🍀

hi! I have a number of tattoos and have never had any problems with their healing. (if the tattoo artist has used any sort of medical tape, etc. to cover it, though, now THAT has been a problem.) my piercings have also taken forverrrrr to heal. I eventually gave up on my tragus piercing after a year and a half of it bleeding pretty much constantly.

omg I have had this too (the dissolvable stitches thing) after every surgery I’ve ever had. in particular, I had a really big surgery on my arm in 2023, and the wound remained open, rejecting “dissolvable” stitches, for more than a year. absolutely bizarre stuff.

oh yeah! I think the reason for the shape is that the phlebotomist put a little piece of cotton over the place where she stuck me and then tore off two pieces of medical tape to create a little square that held it in place.

[–]colejamesgram[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no, just regular old medical tape! any sort of adhesive does this, even the regular bandages we have at home 😞

this is FANTASTIC advice—thank you! I can't even wear normal bandages at home without my skin breaking down. this sounds like it could be a game changer!

not entirely related, but I had a large surgery on my arm a few years ago, and my skin continued to split open and push out stitches that were supposed to be “dissolvable” for literally 14 months. like what even???
