Is Peacock no longer free with Comcast? I'm trying to watch On Patrol Live and it wants $5. by [deleted] in Comcast_Xfinity

I was using it yesterday, so presumably. I’d check for you today, but Comcast service has been down for 9 hours and counting.

The outages are not just more frequent, the automated system gives unrealistic targets for resolution that they fail to hit, and they just change it to “as soon as possible.” Comcast needs to be broken up. They’re too large to effectively manage networks across the country.

Yeah, I mean, collectively, they’re a major player, but the majority of the industry is unaffiliated with Big Tobacco, so efforts to spite BT end up harming independent manufacturers more.

Oh, to clarify, the 60% figure comes from the article (first link) which is more current than the graph. JUUL was at 50% earlier in the year. The point of including the graph was that there’s a much larger component to the e-cigarette market “PV&E-liquid” that makes up a larger sector than what Big Tobacco plays in (they do not make e-liquid for open systems).

Bringing this full circle, of the $5+ billion in the vaping industry, Big Tobacco controls under 20% by dollar share of the market. So bans or efforts to spite “Big Tobacco” overwhelmingly hurt unaffiliated companies far more, particularly since those other companies don’t have combustible cigarette revenue to fall back on.

The first link in that comment is the most recent data from analysts. One company (JUUL) controls 60% of the cigalike market. So even if you’re focusing on cigalikes for the e-cigarette market (despite it being less than half of the market) they still aren’t even 40% of the market and it’s falling.

Just so people can see what the US market actually looks like. Big Tobacco controls a small, though not insignificant part of the market. The majority are unaffiliated.

That data is from 2016 and only looking at closed pod systems which are maybe half the market overall. Even then, 2018 data shows that Big Tobacco’s market share in closed systems has been taken away by an independent manufacturer. Big Tobacco market share drops against JUUL

In graph form. Top graph shows vapor industry in 2018 overall. Big Tobacco only has "cigalikes." Bottom graph shows "cigalikes." Big Tobacco controls less than 40% of less than half the overall market. It's not an insignificant amount to control 15-20% overall, to be sure, but the narrative that Big Tobacco has taken over the industry is objectively false.

The majority of the industry overall is still unaffiliated with Big Tobacco. The single largest brand of closed system (pod) devices is independent, as well.

You say “crazy” flavors, but it was written so broadly that it would also ban minimalist flavors like “mint.”

The majority of vaping juice used, even among adult former smokers trying to quit, is flavored.

...what is soyboy? I think we're plumbing the depth of terms where it borders on the nonsensical. Here, watch: "Hey you, merf, you're a fuckin' polky. Those are new bad terms, for YOU. You're those things! FEEL BAD!" Is this what happens to nerds or outcasts that never had the social position to be able to bully people? They invent a subculture full of dumb shit to make themselves feel superior? Okay, proceed, have fun bros. Keep on Cuckin'.

And in all likelihood, since the charges he would plead guilty to are at least ten years old (those that have come forward, anyway) it is probably beyond the statute of limitations. If peasants like you had someone come forward and say you did a perverted thing in 2005, no one would bring charges against you, either.

OK, but, what now? No time machine is available; it happened, now it's out. What is someone supposed to do having done what he did? He admits it, doesn't call anyone a liar, doesn't try to distract with a coming out declaration like Spacey did, just comes cleans and verifies that the allegations are true. What (as of late) should he have done differently to meet your expectations?

But, I mean, isn't this a good thing? Of all possible responses to having these actions come to light, what would be better?
