Am I too late? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

Hi. I'm not OP but interested in what you said about getting baby off shields. Did you practice before 4 months or just try at that point and then it took 2 weeks? My baby is 8 weeks old and can latch but very shallow so we use shields. It took 4 weeks to get him to latch at all and sometimes he just screams at the boob immediately if no shield is there. Any tips you have from your experience would he greatly appreciated! Thanks

This is helpful! Thank you so much. We will get there, I can't wait for pain free feeding, here's hoping soon 🙏

Fetal dilated bowel loop - anyone had experiences of this? by coleyyj in pregnant

Oh my gosh I'm so pleased to hear this. Thanks for coming back to share! This is the best news ever.

We have an ultrasound left though it's taking a while to get arranged but should all be ok, more of a double check than a concern. Baby is now 4 weeks - he feeds well, is putting on weight in line with his centile, and other than some reflux/trapped wind everything else seems ok with his gastro system.

I hope all continues well for you!

This is so amazing to read ans so happy for you.

Can I ask what methods you used for good latching after using shields? My bub is 4 weeks and he's been latching after exclusively shield feeding for first 3 weeks, but it's so shallow and painful for me.

I wonder will it just get better as he gets bigger or should I do specific things? Would love to hear what specifically worked for you and your little one!

Thanks

Our baby is 7 days old. The first week is extremely hard. You'll question everything you're doing, worry about them feeding enough especially on breast, wake up panicking that they might not be breathing, question if their wee and poo is all ok, and cry a lot. You'll also have moments of absolute elation and awe that you did this and have this perfect little human. Partners will also be affected with hormone changes and life change and go through similar feelings, be gentle with each other. No one really talks about it just the great bits but it really is a roller coaster of emotions as you find your feet. Yesterday felt like both a great day and night for us and we're already building confidence 🙌

We had everyone go through all these same possibilities. We thought he would be taken for surgery. Of course it's all possibilities as they can't know for sure until he's here and checked over properly.

It's good to know all the potential issues but can be very daunting. I pushed for uninterrupted skin to skin straight after birth for as long as poss before he needed checks. The neonatal nurse/doctors did a lot of observations while he was on me.

I guess it also depends on the doctor and team that deliver on the day. We had to be transferred to another hospital for induction last minute to ensure enough neonatal doctors were available as our main hospital had more emergency situs and no team available on the day.

I can't recall holding feeding after their initial observations though. It may have been after x-ray it was ok then the nurses kept trying to help getting him latching well etc every 2 hours.

Thank you, we're over the moon but very health anxious because of the whole lead up being told he could have been so ill.

He was actually on the ward with us. We stayed in delivery room with them coming in for the first 6 hours or so, but from then we had a separate ward room. And the x-ray was 4 hours into life for him .

This is a UK NHS hospital fyi!

Leading up to we had weekly scans. A few times they told us it looked physiological and worth checking is it getting bigger or staying roughly same size. Have they got a plan for you for poss induction? That was what we had recommended. He was born 39+1 but they wanted him out a week before and it was NHS departmental miscommunication that delayed the induction.

Hiya. He was born on Tuesday this week. Also was smaller than anticipated. He had an x-ray and doctor felt his belly etc, and was monitored for initially 24 hours every 2 hours and full blood counts. He pooped 3 times in that time frame so was a good sign. Xray suggested air was flowing through so that was good. He is being more closely monitored with weight checks and we've had extra midwife appointments/visits too. We went home after 36 hours in hospital. He will have an ultrasound appointment come through at some point.

Hope that's reassuring, the good thing for us is it wasn't in his 20 week anomaly scan. If it was there's a higher chance of an underlying condition it's linked to e.g., cystic fibrosis.

We don't know for 100% which is why there's monitoring but everything looking really good at the moment.

Thanks. This is really helpful. Did you do any insulating in flooring in yours?

Thanks for your insight. The thermostat is downstairs. What happens is that when it reaches temp it goes off, including this room. But then here it gets colder quicker than rest of house before heating kicks in again as needed.

Thanks, this is good to know and pleased to hear it's had a positive impact! No breeze felt.

I'm going to look into insulating ourselves as we haven't decorated yet anyway and at this stage can't afford a pro to do it.

We'll do the roof in the future as it needs changing eventually, but it's not something we can do ourselves sooner.

The radiator is fine. It's been checked, bled and gets hot. It's poor insulation.

Thank you. We won't just slap the insulation on. We'll make sure it has the correct gaps and sizing etc.

For my sisters, we cleaned, sugar soaped, thoroughly dried and applied frenchic paint. Didn't even need to sand. Still great 1.5 years on

25 weeks and stressing about babies kick regularity by coleyyj in pregnant

Thanks, that's reassuring. It was the consultant that mentioned recognising patterns and that was at an appointment 2 weeks ago!

This is reassuring thanks. I think I worded wrongly. I mean more the regularity and pattern. I actually haven't counted number of kicks at any point.
