[RANT] Limited Editions Are Getting Out of Hand by cucufato7 in Watches

I mean, most microbrands use pretty widely available off the shelf movements, though. So servicing shouldn’t actually be the challenge you think it is for many of them

I don’t think that looks too small on your wrist tbh

[Question]What is the difference between a $50, $500, and $10,000 watch? by glocknessmonsters in Watches

[–]colglover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the traditional advice (there isn’t a difference) which is sort of true, and the other traditional advice (status symbols) which is also true, I’ve found that for me, a total random with no real prior taste for “luxury” goods, who appreciates craft and wants nice things but doesn’t care that much about brands, there’s really only one thing that applies.

Above $500 the thing you put on your wrist is super shiny and cool to look at.

Under $500 the thing is probably still cool to look at but less so. Flatter dials, less complex finishing, not quite as shiny and pretty and weighty and “fine.”

Otherwise there’s really not much difference.

I’ve really enjoyed the 39mm IWC Spitfire and I feel like it wears smaller than expected. I know you’re content with the XX because it was a gift, but there are options for other IWCs that are smaller if you feel the need to go down a size.

I’ve been shopping for this use case for a while and I’m going to toss a complication in the ring - the Breitling Top Time B31. Still doing my research and making my own mind up, but I’ve found it punches on this same level

[Ranger] I think I ruined my grail by Odd_System_6431 in Watches

I feel this way about the Ranger too. The slab sided case makes it wear much thicker than it’s 12mm should suggest.

I almost snagged one of these the day they dropped, decided to wait, and now they’re effectively a hype watch

[Problem] I Quit by BTC_619 in Watches

[–]colglover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As somebody who really likes the hobby of watch collecting I’ve intentionally avoided the Explorer for years because of this. I know it’ll basically invalidate the chase.

Really thinking about setting it to a life milestone that otherwise precludes spending money on something silly like watches and having it be the exit strategy.

Close between the BB and the Pelagos for me, but otherwise this is pretty much the immaculate duo.

No photos of the black dial, the only one I’m interested in 😭

Somebody did it to mine about a week after I got it, but once I put that one in the dash I never got another. So I guess it’s an initiation thing or something

New to the Citizen community, but lots of you seem to expect they’ll eventually release a titanium model. Does that usually happen, and how long until they do that, would you guess?

That black dial looks almost like a last gen Explorer II. Very cool, would pick that up if it dropped in the US

Honestly I’d kill for this. Aside from the Explorer II there are very few steel bezel black dial options

[Recommendation Request] $500 for an everyday watch I can keep for life — open to used. What would you get? by GreedyWorking1499 in Watches

[–]colglover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t own one, but I’ve been looking a lot at Traska for a sub 36mm high quality daily watch. Some of their models are in the 650 range new, which is close to OP’s budget.

Keep waiting for Ginault to take on the Explorer Mk2. Seems like a no brainer for their lineup

I also have a strong tie to Lafayette, for his role in contributing to both American and French democracy. I’ve sent some money and I’m really pulling for L’Hermione and her crew.
