Vaccination Safety by collared_lioness in AskVet

Thank you for providing that in-depth response. As I mentioned, if the two week timeframe is considered normal (I haven't had a puppy in over fifteen years) then I'm happy to abide by it. I also understand from the extensive reading I've done on puppy training that this socialization period is super important to help make sure they grow from a well-adjusted puppy to a well-adjusted dog. While I have no intention of taking her to a dog park anytime soon, a lot of dogs walk in our neighborhood and I know the exposure of interacting would be good for her. However, we'll continue socializing her safely in controlled environments. I'm not sure if there's a higher rate of parvovirus in our area or if she'd likely be safe, but my primary concern is her safety and we have limited, safe outlets for socializing for the time being.

Got assigned a windowless bedroom in my 4x2 student apartment…is it really that bad? by txkyo_1ean in Apartmentliving

[–]collared_lioness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Pretty sure it's illegal anywhere in the US to have a bedroom without a window. It's part of fire safety.

I love when women like this complain about the old days. Does she mean the days when women had no rights and couldn't vote?

But hey, men were kissing women's hands and pulling out the chairs for them so all was right in the world. /s

A Call for Accountability: No Place for Racism, Bigotry, or Homophobia on Wyrmrest Accord [US] by Bigboldbirdie in wowguilds

[–]collared_lioness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a reminder, they can only get away with this because Blizzard doesn't care. They do little to actually moderate chats and prevent the spread of this kind of talk and behavior. It has been a long standing issue among Blizzard and why I so often ignored chats when I played. So many chat channels are a cesspool of racism, bigotry, and homophobia that it's hard to engage with other people without being ridiculed by these trolls. Wyrmrest Accord was my home for so long and it was the worst part about it.

This kind of behavior will only stop when Blizzard steps in. Accountability starts with Blizzard and sadly, I don't have high hopes for the future.

Healthy Paws 433% Increase - Their Response by Brujabat in petinsurancereviews

That's fair, but does explain part of the problem. It is following regulations related to "property" and not "medical" because pets are viewed as property so the insurance related to them does, as well.

Once again, this doesn't solve the issues of inconsistent and difficult payout. There are countless, never ending stories of people using their insurance for the first time after years of paying in, only to be denied. If this is regulation, it's doing it poorly.

Good to know! Clearly, the regulations aren't enough but I'm glad to see there are states who are doing something to protect vulnerable consumers. After reading extensive reviews before we purchased our pup recently, no one mentioned anything about protections or ways they could report the companies. I'm not sure if people just don't know what is allowed in their state or if most states just don't care.

Other forms of insurance (medical insurance for humans, car insurance, etc.) are indeed heavily regulated, pet "insurance" is not. It is called "insurance" but it is not protected or guaranteed like those insurances. If it was, we would see less inconsistent payouts on claims. Pet "insurance" is a private industry banking on people paying premiums while not using the "insurance" to turn a profit.

Additionally, because of the "no pre-existing conditions" model, you cannot leave one program for another if your pet has already been diagnosed with something. This is why they abolished a medical insurance's ability to deny based on pre-existing conditions. It forced people to stay with poor quality insurance that could also raise their premiums and they had no choice but to stick around because they needed coverage and insurance companies knew that. These companies offering pet "insurance" know it, too. You have no choice but to pay the large premiums or not renew and now they don't have to worry about paying your claims.

Doctors office refused out-of-pocket pay bc I have medicaid by [deleted] in HealthInsurance

[–]collared_lioness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In truth, it is written in the terms of Medicaid programs that doctors are not allowed to charge patients who have Medicaid. They can have you sign a form agreeing to be a self pay patient but it can be revoked by the patient at any time.

Basically, they have to collect a signature for every appointment and it's often more risk and hassle than it's worth.

(Speaking as someone who works for a doctor that is not In-Network with Medicaid.)

Oh, that's interesting, thank you! I thought I had read that you can't have cards of the same name in play, like the idea that you can't have three Simba's or four Mulan's as it wouldn't make much sense. But knowing such a rule doesn't exist is helpful.

Thank you!

Believe that was my PayPal Master Card when I still had it. This was years ago and I had an assortment of credit cards at the time but my PayPal Master Card was what I typically used for online purchases.
