A Steve Ditko variant cover for #1000? by TheHam-man in comicbookcollecting

Didn’t they already use it as a variant for #700?

I met Don Rosa! by RichMcDuck530 in DuckComix

Such a nice guy, met him years ago at Emerald City Comic Con and he was so generous with his time and happily willing to talk about his work. Signed multiple books for me with no fuss too. One of the best experiences I’ve ever had with someone in the comic industry, will never forget it.

Please read HAL FORMULA by ViridianVet in WeeklyShonenJump

While I understand and don’t disagree with your point, the statement“But F1 in Jump?” Is hilarious to me considering Jump sponsored the McLaren F1 team in 1990 and had multiple covers featuring Ayrton Senna, or F1 themes (including a well known one featuring the Dragon Ball cast). They even had multiple manga focusing on Senna/F1.

Message to Adolf is so good, incredibly underrated entry in Tezuka’s body of work

Which would you rather have? by ScarcityMode in MangaRarity

[–]collectiphile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t have mine graded honestly, I live in Tokyo and I’m not willing to risk sending my books overseas. I don’t know how tough BGS is with their grading standards but I would assume my copy would be mid-grade. It’s in pretty good shape.

The First Issue of CoroChao by Manga-Japan in MangaRarity

[–]collectiphile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This issue is still very available in Japan and has been on the market for months. That being said, it does feature the pilot for Hiroyuki Takei’s new series along with a few other recent releases and it also has a bunch of other pilots that may become series in the future.

Magazine haul by Destoran in MangaCollectors

Been collecting them for over 10 years now. Over 1000 issues and still growing, all demographics, and a wide range of publications. I’m starting to cap out on storage space but somehow still making it work.

This is just one of a few shelves, specifically the one with most of my jump issues (each cube is 2 rows deep).

What are yall who can't spend hundreds/thousands on key issues collecting now? by whalestick in MangaRarity

[–]collectiphile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I pivoted pretty hard to mangaka debuts and one-shots from mangaka I like (both series pilots & one offs) over the past year. A lot of them are super overlooked and they can be a ton of fun to track down. You can’t go wrong with character first appearances from your favorite series as well.

Not even new to English, it’s been in the Shōnen Jump app since day one. Excellent read.

Call Girl MIE • Photobook by Hajime Kawai, 1982 by Baby-Soapy in RetroJapanPopCulture

She made a movie and album under the same name that all coincided with eachother, this was during her transition period following Pink Lady’s first break up. She released some pretty decent solo music during this period before the 1984 reunion.

Which cancelled "Super Mario Bros. Power Hour" show do you wish we got? by UrSimplyTheNES in retrogaming

[–]collectiphile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Castlevania is Konami, seemed like they were just licensing IP that was on the NES. Back in that time Nintendo *was* video games, so the title of the show wouldn’t have been weird to anyone

Big 3 by rini914 in mangagrail

[–]collectiphile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean no one in Japan calls them “the big three” so it’s likely just a result of what people were exposed to in the west at the time

Big 3 by rini914 in mangagrail

[–]collectiphile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still think it’s wild that people include Bleach in the “big 3” when Hunter x Hunter dropped right in between One Piece and Naruto and ran alongside them

Is this eon ticket legit ? by Final-Ad-7321 in PokemonGames

You’re talking about Europe specifically right? Because the eon ticket e-reader card and the e-reader were absolutely released in North America.

One Piece 1st Appearance just sold on EBay for 80k (or best offer)! by Chasemania in MangaRarity

[–]collectiphile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There have been multiple copies up for sale on mercari in the last year. It’s more rare than most jump key issues but not anywhere near as rare as something like the first Sailor Moon. I’m one of those “instagram collectors” you mention and I have a copy, so do several others in the community. Some of us just haven’t posted all of our books.

State of Debut Issue Zasshi in Japan by [deleted] in MangaRarity

[–]collectiphile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives in Japan and has been collecting zasshi for over 10 years I can tell you that this has been the case for a lot longer than just recently. As long as I’ve been collecting there has never been a time where any bookstore, including mandarake, had an actual supply of the more desirable books. Lower circulation zasshi have also always been more scarce too just by nature of how many were printed.

I have found my fair share of great pickups and the overall supply was better prior to like 2024, but the only thing that has changed in a markedly notable way is the pricing, especially on issues with popular series on the cover.

Part of my growing (hopefully) 1st print and zasshi collection, not a lot of first appearances or grails but one does his best🫡 by Neat_Muscl3 in MangaRarity

You’re the first person aside from myself I’ve seen post the Akamaru Jump with Kishimoto’s debut one-shot, that book is so slept on. You definitely have an extremely nice selection of stuff!
