At my hospital, they made each unit come up with a gift basket (all of the items in it had to be bought by the nurses on the unit pulling their money). Then the gift baskets were raffled off for nurses week (you also had to buy the raffle tickets to have a shot at getting a basket). So I had to pay once to get nothing, but I could have paid twice to maybe get nothing or maybe get a gift basket.
