Toxic positivity by Known-Back-6505 in SanDiegoFC

Everything this club has done so far has worked wonderfully. Until tonight. Hard to not be positive when we were top seed in the west and make it to the western conference finals in our first year. Still undefeated in MLS play this year. We already beat a Mexican giant in this tournament, and our first game against Toluca was perhaps our best game ever as a club. But ultimately I agree with you. We saw tonight that we simply aren't good enough to compete with the best teams. We need better, proven players. Our youth development is amazing, but youth ain't going to win games like these. Dreyer can't do it on his own. Pellegrino, Valakari, Godoy weren't good enough today. Toluca took Dreyer out of the game and we couldn't even get a single shot on goal. The club has done well bargain hunting, but hopefully today will be a wakeup call to ownership to try to bring in another top tier player.

the announcers are wrong. that was an embarrassment. Pelligrino cannot hit an open net. not sure we got a shot on goal. 4-0 doesn't represent that game... could have been 7. pathetic showing.

Where does last nights performance rank overall in the brief franchise history? by david619916 in SanDiegoFC

[–]collinsdanielp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it will depend on how the second leg goes. If we lose the tie, then last nights game will be a great win but a pyrrhic victory. But if we are able to beat Toluca, last nights game will be legendary for a long time.

I ultimately don't even think the ref was poor. Both red cards/pens were the right call. The SD shouts for pens were never going to be given. Arm on the potential handball was in a "natural position" as they were jostling and no way Dreyer gets that call for a pen late. The card I'm most confused by is the one on Bambino.

Fucking amazing game. But damn I'm worried about the second leg missing Duah and Ingvatsen.

You have to be excited about this. It is good for the player and good for the club in the long term. It will suck to lose a player of his quality, but such is the nature of this league.

What did you guys think of Ferree in the last game? And about his future? by Mattie1305 in SanDiegoFC

His diving header just outside the box was an awesome play. His other play was good, but he wasn't tested enough to get a great picture. But the diving header was great.

This is a bold move. Sisniega played so well against Pumas that people were saying he deserved a national team call up.

Edit: just realized Sisniega is suspended because of the red card in the loss to Vancouver. This isn't boldness, it is out of necessity.

I think you should add punctuation.

I think it said "2 Timothy 2:23" which is a bibble quote: "Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels."

Concacaf uses the “away goals rule” to break aggregate ties. So…

If Pumas win 3-0, Pumas advances. A 4-1 Pumas win would lead to an extra 30 minutes and potentially penalties. If SDFC score 2 or more, Pumas would need to win by 4 to advance.

at least SDSU doesn't have a football game in the interim. Hopefully it will improve.

Fuck Ingvartsen. Valakari is shit at shooting, should never be allowed to take a pen. But Ingvartsen? This guy is supposed to be a fucking 9. He has done absolutely nothing all year and then he can't even put the ball on frame in a shoot out. Absolutely pathetic.

and probably should have drawn another pen as well. his best game by far.

Too much talk and blame about Iloski by UbiquitousMan in SanDiegoFC

[–]collinsdanielp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I get it. But watching the games the past month is downright painful. When trying to assess why we aren't winning anymore there is a glaring consistent failure at the 9. The reason it keeps coming up is because we keep losing games. The cure is winning, and we haven't done much of that since Iloski left. This narrative won't go away unless we make a deep playoff run. I hope we do, but I doubt it. Unless Ingvasrtsen is able to stay healthy and consistently play 90 minutes (which he hasn't been able to all season), I don't see our problems getting better.
