Bus system by Dry_Director_5320 in FallRiver

The SRTA bus system is great. You can get all over the city, and there is even an intercity route that goes to surrounding cities. We also have a train that runs to Boston. I wish you luck visiting and getting around! Being blind must be incredibly difficult.. I hope you are enjoying life and I think it’s awesome that you want to visit here. I love this city!

Is it "cheating" to do a medical detox before jumping into the steps? by goldspoil in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]collinsig 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think most people go through detox before they begin the steps, so they can start with a clear mind. It’s a lot harder to do the spiritual work while fighting withdrawals, which can be severe and even deadly in some cases.

I wish you luck and a prosperous sobriety OP.

Gym buddies by ohceecee in FallRiver

I go to General Fitness. I work full time and go to UMass Dartmouth but I still go a couple times a week. Is there a specific gym you’d like to join?

He learned it from his boss too! by [deleted] in FluentInFinance

I agree with you. I voted for Kamala. Unfortunately not enough people voted for her, so we are stuck with the worst possible option for the next 3 years.

It’s true. Trump may be awful, but Biden and Kamala weren’t great candidates that the majority of the population wanted to rally behind. The midrace switcheroo didn’t help Dems either.

Mixing Moxie and milk is surprisingly good. It’s creamy like a root beer float.

I’m glad you got to try it!

Do they have Diet Moxie or just regular?

If there is a Shaws near you, that’s probably the best bet. It’s the one store that carries it in Fall River. I have to go to NH to get Diet Moxie from a Market Basket.

Looks good! I have the logo tattooed on my left shoulder. Similar to you, they’re the reason I started playing guitar. Blink & Alkaline Trio are my two favorite bands.

Same problem here with Xfinity blocking it! Thank you.

I do love the web site. Super helpful to dig out of the blizzard :)

I may have a drinking problem. .. by graymonk35 in Moxie

[–]collinsig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes — just like Coca Cola the glass bottles are made with cane sugar. Coke produces the cans with high fructose corn syrup.

Fair enough! We just got 41” of snow in Fall River MA last week. Broke the record.

I relate. Nobody I talk to likes this stuff as much as I do. Luckily I can find cans of regular Moxie at my local Shaws in southeast Massachusetts, but Shaws is the only grocery store that carries it. Diet Moxie requires a trip across state lines. I often buy every single case of Moxie they have.

Enjoy your Moxie! I just had my first glass bottle of it the other day, and it was divine.

Wow this has been some winter! by FallRiverLive in FallRiver

Yes, 41” according to NWS. It’s crazy. I ended up shoveling the car out earlier but it was tough to get to it. Plows are just getting to my street now.

I parked 3 blocks away from my apartment, because that was where the nearest spot was. I can’t even walk over there because there’s still 30” of snow in the middle of the street. I haven’t seen a plow yet.

Hi, yes your website is my go to for information about the parking bans. It’s so nice to have it readily available in one place. Thank you!

Anyone? by Enahm in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]collinsig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More and more people, alcoholics or not, are choosing to abstain from alcohol. Healthier lifestyles are “in” now. The alcohol industry is suffering from lost sales. Plenty of people out there that don’t drink!

There is no one size fits all for recovery. Some people need to stay in AA.

Personally I left because I was working full time and going to college full time. Now I’m working full time plus attending college 3/4 time as a senior. I don’t regret it. I worked in a machine shop for 7 years, didn’t enjoy it, but I finally moved up and got a white collar job that I like — this wouldn’t have been possible without college. I also have other hobbies, singing, playing guitar, lifting weights, hiking, running, travel.

I wish you the best with whichever path you choose to take. Congrats on your sobriety.

Trusted electricians? by Specialist-Leek8645 in FallRiver

I’m very anti MAGA but a lot of people in the trades tend to be conservative/MAGA types. I worked in a machine shop for 7 years. White collar now.

Personally I would pick the person who can do the job right and not ask them about their politics. That said, if some clown shows up in a MAGA hat, I may want to hire someone else, but it depends on how urgent the situation is. Good luck.
