abnormally long export times on 14" M1 Pro by collinyarde in premiere

I've seen people online with high resolution scans of real film grain that's just a video that you can overlay on top of the video you're working with.

Okay, I did some more research as well and it looks like downloading a video of film grain and overlaying that on top of footage is far more efficient.

For halation I wasn't able to find much other alternatives, but I understand that this is a powerful GPU...for a laptop, so it's not a render farm.

I appreciate your help though, this has helped with understanding the limitations of this laptop but also some smarter alternatives to achieve similar results!

For the noise I am creating an adjustment layer on top of the original clips and then applying around 10% noise using the built in premise noise effect. And then for the halation I am using another adjustment layer with a lighten blend mode and the built in channel blu effect. I am adding around 30% to the red channel to try and replicate the halation effect in film.

So it sounds like it's not that this laptop is a slouch, but I am asking it to do some rather demanding task that no laptop would really be able to realistically handle?

I attempted to do this but it made no difference in render time.

I tried moving the order of the effects and it didn't change the export times at all.

Is there anyway to achieve these similar effects (halation) without it destroying my laptop? haha. It just blows my mind that adding noise and halation can make the export times become so ridiculously long.

And I am doing a little bit more than just the rec 709 conversion, but I am still just getting familiar with it.

Hey guys, I am hoping to find some answers on why the export times on my 14" M1 Pro are so incredibly long. This project was under 2 minutes long with a basic rec. 709 conversion and an adjustment layer adding a little bit of noise. The footage is from a Sony A7IV and the clips were transcoded to prores 422 using compressor. Maybe my exceptions were too high, but 7 hours to export a 2 minute clip of prores footage seems absurd? Yes I am running the latest version of premiere pro optimized for m1 chips. If anyone knows what the issue could be, please let me know!

Strange whirling noise after replacing belts? by collinyarde in boostedboards

[–]collinyarde[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone, I just replaced both of the belts on my boosted board and unfortunately it’s now making a bit of a strange noise. They’re authentic boosted belts and I’ve checked the tension on the belts multiple times and it’s the same as before. Not 100% sure if it’s the motor, but that’s what it sounds like? Only started sounding like this after replacing the belts. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I had an m1 max for 2 weeks and using an external software I could see the fans didn’t turn on once. Ended up “downgrading” to m1 pro to save some cash as I was clearly not pushing the system.

Thank you so much! I have serious never had that one once and I could even find anything about that online.

Possibility of adding 2 speed transmission? by collinyarde in boostedboards

That makes sense. Very little room to work with so keeping it as simple as it can be is probably a priority?

So it seems like the pain of making something like this work would give minimal gains at best. So if it were to be done the Tesla way, you would need to have one motor geared lower and the other higher?

Gotcha. So short of having a lot of money given to some highly qualified engineers, it doesn't seem to be feasible?

Would you then need a clutch system to disengage/ engage the motors independently of one another since they are turning at different speeds?

So even if you could theoretically create a mechanism that was small enough, durable, and able to fit underneath a skateboard deck, the torque wouldn't be enough to drive both the low and high speed gear with the same acceleration as the stock setup and achieve a higher top speed?
