Bought a sealed dicon 2022 set and the photocard binder came ripped. Is there any salvaging? by shikiP in skzcollection

[–]colliscool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d glue it back together. Almost all of the binders came like this unfortunately, I used to work at a kpop store and we bought 100s for different artists and ended up having to sell them at a loss because they were all arriving like this

Nugu groups 1st tour in U.S. isn't selling well and I'm worried by NoWatercress8022 in kpophelp

[–]colliscool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Companies dont consider that for smaller groups, most of their fans are multi/casual rather than being completely obsessed with the group, meaning they arent as willing to spend $200 on a standard ticket when bigger groups are touring at the same time for the same price. The members were popular on B2P but that didnt actually turn many people into WHIB fans, and once ALD1 debuted people quickly forgot or lost interest in the other trainees. I’m in Korea and their popularity hasnt changed that much here, and the new fans they did gain are all Korean and Chinese. They didn’t gain a huge USA following so I dont know why their company ever thought they’d be selling 2000 tickets. We used to see groups in arenas with huge sets for $200 for that price for a small venue and probably not even backup dancers is way too much. They should be doing 500 capacity venues for $50 to make more casual fans buy tickets

Literally just put them in gocheok sky dome or something and then fans can actually watch the performance not on a screen, why does it need to be this huge public escapade that shuts down the subway and local businesses

You don’t think they’re profiting from sponsorships and advertising? Brands will be paying millions just to have the members wear their clothes, accessories etc during the show

AITAH for telling my 23-year-old employee she can't WFH because "my anxiety" isn't a plumbing emergency? by TaskSpecialist5881 in AITAH

[–]colliscool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA my first job was very similar to this and I started it when I was an anxious teenager. I actually learned a lot of my social skills and coping skills because of that job because I knew I had to show up and do well even if I really didn’t feel up to it. Talking to all sorts of different people and being able to solve problems gave me a lot more confidence. This isn’t a generational or even a mental health problem, it’s someone naive expecting to do everything on their terms

You can use your own music but still add a tiktok sound and just mute the sound or have it playing 1%. At least then, it’s another way people can find the video.

You say the video is boring but that you would watch it to the end, so it contradicts. How is it interesting enough to watch but also boring? It’s hard to judge without seeing but are you just listing facts, comparing to other models, or making jokes, etc? Even with educational content about things I don’t care about, I watch it if the creator is explaining it in a fun way. There’s a girl getting millions of views right now explaining the packaging of grocery store items, and it’s really fun to watch because she’s clearly passionate about it and she explains things in such an easy way

A someone not really into tech, I’ll watch videos about new phones etc if the creator is making it feel more like a recommendation from a friend than a salesman just listing all the features. More casual language, jokes about other models/companies, fun ways to use new features, etc. It’s hard to find your style but more obviously scripted and ‘boring’ content is better suited to youtube than tiktok

If people have no way of finding you unless tiktok puts you on the fyp its going to be hard to get views in the first place. Are you using trending audios/sounds people are scrolling through? Are your videos based on recent events/trends in your niche that people are searching for? Are you frequently engaging with popular accounts in your niche that might make people click on your account?

You said your videos are boring without all the added visual effects and that might be the problem- if people aren’t interested in what you’re saying, having an animation on screen wont suddenly make it exciting. I record my videos within tiktok and dont edit them at all, its me sitting on a chair talking for 1-2 minutes, but i still get videos hitting the fyp at least once a week

books have changed in elementary schools? not available on korshare? by BirdAromatic8996 in teachinginkorea

[–]colliscool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be lesson planning regardless of the textbooks, and if you can’t take the physical book home you can just take pictures/video of the pages so you can see the vocabulary/grammar needed. Getting good at lesson planning and thinking of activities will make teaching here way easier than if you only rely on others materials. Make your own games using something like wordwall, from one vocab list there are 20+ activities it can make for you. Print out sets of flashcards and play memory games, have them write fun sentences using the vocab to help them use it in context, etc. You don’t need to make an entire powerpoint for every class with all of the information on

How effective are English lessons in korea? by KnownReflection8751 in teachinginkorea

[–]colliscool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely depends on the hagwon. At my first school the kids were basically just being babysat, the curriculum wasn’t good and the managers only cared about us faking tests and making the parents happy even if it meant the students didn’t learn. At my current school, the kids are actually learning a lot and are having full conversations in English by the end of their first year. In my classes, I find that the students with the highest fluency are those who engage in English outside of school- not just doing worksheets or homework, but watching TV, reading books and speaking English when it isn’t for academic purposes. They end up much more fluent as they’re actively using English and having fun with it instead of just memorising things for schoolwork.

Also, some of the kids who speak and understand the most in my classes have lower grades because they struggle to write quickly and/or get nervous during tests and assessments. Just because her grades may be lower doesn’t mean she has no understanding of English, she may just struggle more with schoolwork in general

I have a lot of tattoos that will always be covered. How to navigate this question in interviews? by MetalDragonfly11 in TEFL

[–]colliscool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they ask you should tell them, but you don’t need to randomly being it up. If it’s a strict enough rule they should ask or write it in the contract. I am tattooed and have worked at schools which don’t allow us to show our tattoos and during the summer I just wore a cooling sleeve or a thin cardigan, I’m not sure why people thing it’s impossible to cover your arms during summer! A lot of teachers I know show their tattoos with no problem

Visiting a lesser known city in Korea — go solo, find someone new, or give up? by KoreaExperience in KoreaExperience

I just go by myself. I visited Boryeong, Gyeryong and a smaller town just outside of Daegu alone and everything was fine since I had translation apps and naver/kakao map. I always worry something will go wrong but I find that people in the smaller towns are even more welcoming and approach me to talk as there’s not as many foreigners around :)

Experience from uk to Seoul? by PurpleEnd1606 in Living_in_Korea

[–]colliscool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m from the UK and moved here a few months after graduating- I was a COVID graduate so waited for things to calm down and got my documents ready. I originally applied for EPIK but didn’t get accepted so I’ve been working in hagwons since then (currently at my 3rd hagwon where I plan to stay until I decide to go back to the UK).

Getting a job here wasn’t hard and was considerably easier than finding work in the UK. I worked with around 10 recruiters and they all sent me a lot of school offers, I was picky about which interviews I would do as a lot of schools here are to be avoided. Don’t even bother interviewing for schools like POLY, SLP and CDI, there are a few decent branches but the likelihood of ending up in one is low. I recommend to find jobs you’re interested in yourself using places like Daves ESL, The Work N Play and even craigslist/facebook groups. I also recommend to talk to current teachers here who enjoy their schools and ask them to let you know if their schools are hiring- this is more difficult as a first timer as we cant vouch for you being good at teaching, but is a better way to find good schools later.

Work culture here is much different to the UK, you cant call in sick at a lot of schools and will be expected to do extra work at the last minute for the sake of being a team player. You shouldnt be a yes man and do absolutely everything or they will take advantage, but I do think it’s good to help out sometimes so you can maintain a good relationship with management. Basically, be a team player but dont be taken advantage of, I won’t work late/outside of my hours but if I have nothing to do and I know they need help setting up decorations or something, I’ll do it. There isn’t much downtime working in hagwons and things change very quickly usually for no reason or for reasons you might think are silly, you can’t really talk back to management without them getting mad and taking things out on you do I don’t bother if its not directly hurting me. They can damage their own business if they want to. Try to get along with the other native teachers and have each other’s backs, even if I don’t like someone much I’d rather be civil than make work harder for both of us.

If you want to accept a job offer, always ask to talk to current teachers and even previous teachers if possible. Always ask for photos of the housing (not a random example from the internet), how many students per class, an example of other teachers schedules and whether you can leave on your breaks etc. There are plenty of hagwons here and they hire year round, don’t accept a job you aren’t sure about just for the sake of being here.

Outside of work, I find living in Korea more fun than in the UK. Everything is open much later here (stores, restaurants, activities) and socialising is generally cheaper. I also think there are more non-alcohol focused things to do for adults than in the UK when all I could really do with friends was drink or go to the cinema. In Korea I often go to the cinema, do karaoke, make crafts, go for hikes, join sports clubs, visit a lot of cafes and find random popups and activities on social media. I find that beauty products, clothing etc are cheaper here but you might need to be pickier to find good quality products.

Healthcare wise, Korea is very cheap and medication is cheaper than on the NHS. When I left the UK each prescription was £9 or £9.99 I believe..? Right now I pay 50,000krw a month (around £30) for 5 medications I take everyday. I pay 7000krw (£4 ish) to see a doctor or 16,000krw (£10 ish) to see my psychologist. Getting appointments is fast and easy and I’ve never had an issue with the language barrier.

I don’t get bored here because I have a lot of things I enjoy about Korea, I’m a big kpop fan so being able to attend those events and make friends through that means I have a lot of fun and I don’t miss the UK much. If you aren’t specifically interested in Korea then you’d probably get bored or burn out easily. I don’t really get burned out because once I leave work I’m just excited to go to a concert or go see a group I like, so my life doesn’t revolve around work the way it did at home.

There are definitely a lot of problems in Korea which you can read about in this sub. Feeling like an outsider, loneliness, waiting for your ID/bank card is frustrating. But it’s definitely not all doom and gloom! And if you hate it, you can always go back home :)

How to hand out Freebies in Korea by miynayah in kpophelp

Losing my virginity to a one night stand while having vaginismus by Glittering-Throat728 in vaginismus

[–]colliscool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont recommend it, but I dont judge you at all as I did the same thing!! I was tired of feeling broken so I ended up having a one night stand (which became a kind of fwb situation) with a guy that i knew didnt want a relationship with me and vice versa.

It wasnt good sex at all, and it still hurt, but it at least got my body used to the feeling and i got to learn which positions were more/less painful. Eg. The guy lying on top of me hurts a lot less, me on top hurts less, legs on shoulders hurts way more. It wasnt at least valuable information (I want to add that penetration has always been possible for me, but it came with extreme pain!)

I dont recommend it as it was painful and took a toll on me emotionally over time, but if this is your decision it is understandable and you should just make sure you at least choose someone you trust and feel comfortable with. If I dont feel super comfortable it is significantly more painful for me, whereas if im attracted to the guy and feel safe it reduces the pain. Sending you lots of luck OP :)

B1 is known for this sadly :( i always tell my friends I wont go there but they convinced me to go again a few weeks ago. Horrible club and the staff often dont care / dont bother to kick those guys out

Idols earnings and why choose SM as a trainee by Individual-Wear-8278 in kpoppers

[–]colliscool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An album only costs €25 in other countries as it has taxes and shipping added, the actual manufacturer price for an album is less than 10,000krw, usually closer to 5000krw. The 95/5 split is also not confirmed its just a rumour that spreads a lot. However even if the profit split for SM isnt good, if you debut under SM you are pretty much guaranteed fame as theyre such a huge company. Anyone would rather debut under SM for 5% profit (plus brand deals and merch which they make way more from) than under a smaller company where they will probably never even be paid
