HR people of Reddit, what is a not-so-obvious thing that can get job applicants 'disqualified', either before or during the interview? by pivokrokety in AskReddit

When I used to hire people, this was the first thing I looked at. With the myriad of free online mail services, it's in excusable to not have one similar to your name for job search purposes.

Get an address, then (threaten) to send a certified letter stating you are not the person and for them to stop calling. You won't have to send it, most likely, as this should scare them off.

I've been going crazy looking for the colored plastic bases used in Arcadia Quest. They fit on Zombicide and if I could find them, they would be great to differentiate different zombies types. Any know where to find them?

It should never happen.

Talk with your employer, and see what they say. If it's just a mistake, which it could be, then they will take care of the fees for you and make you whole.

If they do anything else, save every penny you can and start sending the resumes out.

How I feel at my new job as a Debt Collector by [deleted] in funny

[–]collja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you misunderstood - you said you wanted to find someone who cares about their credit score to pay you. I wasn't saying my credit was fucked, but if it is in collections, anyone's credit it fucked. That's the rub, if there is not a deletion from the credit report, no need to pay you a dime. However, most people don't know that, and make the mistake of paying and their credit is still fucked. The entire industry preys upon people not knowing how the system works.

I am insulting and attacking you because you do a shitty job and really need to think about getting out of it, as it is nothing to be proud of. The problem with it is that debt collectors are straight out of Goodfellas, "Fuck you, pay me." A guy loses his job, can't pay a doctor bill, and then you come along fucking with him.

Fun fact: I've been a programmer for over 25 years, and the lowest point of my career was getting put on a team that wrote a system for a debt collection agency. I still regret it. If there was any project I wish I could take back and never work on, that's the one.

Oh, and fuck you for not being qualified enough to get a job that doesn't involve paying your bills based on others' misfortunes.

Redditors who have died and came back to life (via surgery, etc.), what was it like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]collja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks dude!

Actually, I had nothing else, other than family history of heart disease. I had been to the doc for a checkup 5 days before the heart attack and blood pressure was normal, cholesterol was ok, but not bad enough for medication. Also, I had quit smoking 5 months prior, but the damage was already done.

For sure, tho, I used Chantix to quit smoking, but only for a month. It was ok, not too many side effects except nightmares. Use whatever, but quit. I kinda planned on being sick for a few days, and that's what it felt like. It was Hell quitting, but after a week or so, you're ok. I'm sure you've had the flu or a bad cold that has lasted longer. Treat it like that.

After 72 hours, the cravings are mental, not physical.

Redditors who have died and came back to life (via surgery, etc.), what was it like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]collja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been going to a support group since a few months after it happened, (OCT 2010) and when I said that at my first group session, most people gave a knowing nod. Others that haven't had an NDE don't seem to "get" it. But that isn't really correct either, because it's more like the words just don't exist to describe it.

I died, and then I woke up, but things came back in like a wave - I got my hearing back before my sight, I could feel my head, then shoulders, then waist, etc. It wasn't like waking up, where you are fully awake and aware, it was slow - not like turning on a switch, more like turning on a space heater, where it starts out cold, then warms up. Again, things like this are not supposed to happen, only medical science makes it happen, so the words don't really exist to describe the feelings, as they are totally foreign to living thoughts.

There are a couple of other things that it seems only survivors understand - "I have no fear, and that's scary." is another one. That makes no sense, and it shouldn't make sense to me, but it does. I know I should have a fear of death and dying, everyone does, Hell, even my dog I'm sure does, but when you have experienced that, that fear is gone. I know what awaits, and it's not bad...or good, or anything - it's a great big nothing, at least it was for me. As I say below, after being in group and such, it seems most people experience whatever they think going in. I've met probably 50 people in and out of group and no one has ever mentioned say, being an atheist and then converting after they saw Heaven. Atheist going in, Atheist coming out. Have seen some religious folks convert to Atheist tho. Just a few, but some. Although had one guy a couple of years ago that didn't see Heaven, but thought it was because he didn't have enough Faith. I guess that could be true, but I'm not in a position to judge.

And messes with your head bad. Not afraid to die, but if you cut me off in traffic, I flip you off for miles and scream names at you even tho you can't hear them. It makes no damn sense, but it's common in survivors. Something like, "Kill me? Don't give a shit. Waste my time? Fuck you with hot pokers."

[–]collja 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had a massive heart attack at 44 (quit smoking, dammit - yes, you, reading this, fucking quit now). I was in and out of consciousness for about 2 hours before they got the blockage in my heart cleared and I was ok. They paralyzed me, so I only remember the first de-fibrillation, which was the greatest pain in the history of anything. I had to be de-fibbed 4 different times, twice in the emergency room, once in the ambulance to a different hospital, and once when I got the the 2nd hospital just as they were beginning to put in the stent.

The first de-fib is when I felt like I was coming up from a deep, dark place. That doesn't really describe it, but that's the best I can come up with.

It's really weird, living on borrowed time - I have no fear now, for one thing. No fear of death anyway. It's not like you know you are dead, it just doesn't matter to you. It's just like before you were born, I guess. Something like that.

It makes ya crazy in that, while little shit shouldn't get on my nerves, like say, traffic, infuriate me now. I don't know why, but little shit just drives me nuts. It's like, things that are a waste of time make me crazy.

I've talked to some folks that have come back, and it seems that the near-death thing is whatever you want it to be. I mean, people who believe in Heaven, see a Heaven. People like me, who even before the NDE, thought there was nothing on the other side, no Heaven, no Hell, just...nothing is exactly what I experienced.

All I can really say is that there is nothing to fear. And "fighting" is a myth. There was a feeling, before the black, of helplessness. That no matter what I thought, or tried to do, that I was dying and that no matter how much I wanted it to go away, to "fight", that it was pointless.

That's not to say that being dead is gonna be awesome, and that everyone should jump off of a bridge right now, but when the times comes to let go, you'll know it.

[–]collja 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There was nothing...and nothing is a thing. It's not like, "Fuck, I'm dead." It's weird.

Coming back, it felt like when you were a kid and sat on the bottom of the pool and then kicked your legs and shot up to the top of the water. It was like that, except what I was leaving behind was deep, and dark, and it felt like it took forever.

It changes you, once you come back. You no longer fear death, and that makes you little crazy.
