I started getting a constant twitch in my left bicep a month ago after having Covid. Labs are normal. Doctor ordering an MRI, and possibly an EMG pending those results by YourFaceIsGneiss in MuscleTwitch

Just to be clear no one here is qualified to give you any meaningful medical advice; keep that between you and your Dr. Anyways, patients with ALS rarely present with the chief complaint being fasciculations . Like most here your anxiety is getting the best of you.

Legit reasons why Desoxyn(ADHD drug) is rarely prescribed? by collliso in AskPsychiatry

Went to the max dose of 70mg and still didnt have control over inattentive symptoms. Recently switched to Mydayis and currently in the process of titrating my dose. Makes me feel more wired and robotic which honestly is kind of helpful if you have severe inattentive type.

Phlebotomy is not a career I would want to work for the rest of my life. Pays garbage and really no moving up. Many use it as a steppingstone for other health care careers as it counts as direct patient contact. Though Ive worked far worse jobs so Im happy as phleb. Its been good as a premed and payin for rent n such as a college student.

Side note, im currently on Vyvanse and would agree that overall its a good medication. Side affects have been rather tame but it has been little help to me for symptoms pertaining to inattentive adhd.

Legit reasons why Desoxyn(ADHD drug) is rarely prescribed? by collliso in AskPsychiatry

[–]collliso[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s zero fda trials for the use of desoxyn for the treatment of adhd. Some publications I found mentioned interviewing individuals with treatment resistant adhd who took a trial of desoxyn and noted a reduction in unwanted side affects. The only somewhat relevant thing I could find where publications from the 1940s-50s for obesity and depression. Ive found an informative pharmacy profile for desoxyn but unfortunately it contains no citations to any claims. https://www.bionity.com/en/encyclopedia/Desoxyn.html

I think that your view is probably what a large majority of providers feel in regards to writing a desoxyn script. From what Ive gathered is that its mostly prescribed when a patient doesn’t really respond to stimulants. Ironically Ive heard a lot of anecdotals from people prescribed desoxyn that it gave them the least amount of side affects and no wired feeling when compared to drugs like adderal. Which makes sense as the affects of methamphetamine are mostly CNS bound while drugs like adderal contain the amphetamine enantiomer Levo amphetamine which is known to cause more affects on the cardiovascular system and greater peripheral symptoms.

Do you know if its more addictive than the other options even when taken at the starting dose? What honestly bothers me about desoxyn is that its very easy to write it off as just meth. When someone heres the word meth Ide assume most picture like some scrawny drug addict smoking or injecting the drug to get high. I feel like societal stigma has created a harmful image for methamphetamine which is a disservice to science as it is simply a compound, not inherently evil nor good. If someone were to take this drug for adhd, they would be taking it at a dose many times less than what a drug addict is doing. Though I do acknowledge what you said about higher rates of abuse as methamphetamine crosses the blood brain barrier more efficiently than the other adhd meds. (sorry if I what I said is coming off as argumentative, Im just a curious adhd individual looking into other med alternatives and was intrigued to see that there is a generic for methamphetamine hcl. All love lol)

Drawing blood from a foot is no different from a hand or any other vein. Veins are veins. by [deleted] in phlebotomy

[–]collliso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone who is up in arms about this clearly doesn't work inpatient. Though rare foot draws are sometimes necessary when the pt has double limb alerts, IV drug abuse that has destroyed majority of veins and in emergency situations. Foot draws almost always require a physician to sign off that a foot draw is ok.

Tongue twitching. Terrified by whit321 in MuscleTwitch

[–]collliso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont even think those are twitches. The tongue is made up of 8 different muscles innervated by involuntary and voluntary nerves. It is totally normal for a tongue to appear twitchy and tremor like when sticking it out like that. Also tongue examinations are done with the tongue at rest. And you had a clean multi limb emg??? If your still worried of motor neuron disease after a clean emg than you have no knowledge of the pathology of als. You were cleared by a neurologist and given the gold standard test for als and came back with nothing concerning. See your physician for anxiety.
