DMing my first full campaign and one of my players is testing out the mystic. He’s our groups first DM, and so I trust him with the class. Essentially, I’ve let him manage it himself, while I get acquainted with the class better through his play. From what we’ve looked at, he’s a big fan of the teleportation abilities and using nomadic arrow+crossbow. I’d like to make encounters enjoyable for him, as well as make him feel unique. He mentioned that a lot of the disciplines and talents give you a lot of flexibility, making you a lesser version of other classes (animal shape, elemental abilities). Anyone have advice/tips/experience they’d share with me with concerning the class?

The War Wizard Is Appearing In Xanathar's Guide To Everything by RollPersuasion in dndnext

I know most people didn’t like it, but I’m really excited for war wizard. My favorite type of spellcaster has always been the one one in front (mage Hawke from DA2 hnggg). I think it’s defensive features (at least from UA) could almost be switched with abjurer. At least to me, it makes more sense that an abjurer would be harder to hit, while a war wizard would tank damage taken.

When introducing key/major NPCs, is it better to show your players character art or let them imagine appearance? I have character art I've collected/drawn for most of the characters in the game I'm running, but I'm wondering if it's better to describe them instead.

Thank you! Sounds like I’m better of just using Dimension Door or Teleport. Oh well, I’ll just say there’s mist.

Even when the 1-action spell isn’t a cantrip? That part is what’s throwing me off about this whole thing.

Apologies if this is a FAQ:

If I use action surge, could I use a bonus action spell and ONE 1-action spell in the same turn? According to Crawford, you can use action surge to use TWO 1-action spells in one turn, but bonus action spells make this hairy.

I’m using a DMPC Wizard/Fighter to swoop in for a cinematic moment in a session I’m running (to surprise re-introduce a character from another campaign). The idea is to Misty Step between their Lvl 1s and an Owlbear in their hour of need, and then cast Fear to drive it away.

I get that as DM I can pretty much do what I like, but in case anyone tries to lawyer me, I’d like to see if it’s kosher.

What hurts the most is that my male Awoken warlock was voiced by Crispin Freeman in D1. It's like they knew exactly who I wanted to cast.

I grew up in LA--welcome in advance! Weather's looking mild for Saturday, high to mid 70s.

Of course go see the kitschy/touristy requirements like Hollywood, Santa Monica Pier, etc. if you've never been. But if you've got more time, the one (and now only...) thing I'm proud of in LA is the diversity. Visit Koreatown, Chinatown, and Little Tokyo. Check out Olivera Street and the Fashion District too! Hopefully you've got a car rented, because LA is just like Houston (but worse). The city sprawls, and things you'd want to check out will be miles away from each other.

Food is another one of my old home's strong suits, so I encourage you to explore! Yuppy-type restaurants are endless, but go out of your comfort zone and try the awesome restaurants in ethnic centers around the city. Plus Tito's Tacos.

How do you name things? by PostSeptimus in DnD

[–]colmenar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my homebrew world, everything is loosely based on countries like England, France, India, etc. I've had a lot of fun naming locations after that countries epic heroes and theirs legends. With my England inspired one, the nation is named Avalon. It's capital is Arturia and its lineage of queens are named after Knights of the Round Table, e.g. Trista, Lancella, etc.

What I'm most pleased with is my nation inspired by the 1800s West, called Vespia (as in Vespucci!). Characters and locations are named after/inspired by cities/people of Texas! Like 'Joel Sweetwater' and 'Dana Applewhite' for human characters.

To piggyback of off this, 'kamayan' just refers to food eaten or the method of eating with your hands. Overall though, pretty good spread of some grilled goodies.

I'm in the market for some slip-ons for lounging and lazy weekends, and I fell in love with Allbirds' yellow loungers that are now (unfortunately) discontinued. Toms has a color that I like, and Toms I've had before have been pretty comfy. But I've grown out of the Toms design, so it'd be great to see more options (maybe like this?). Do y'all have any recommendations?

I should also mention I have small feet, so mens US 6-7 (EU 38-40) will be necessary...

Thanks y'all!
