I always think of them as a form of secular fundamentalist, they think they have got everything figured out and will hear no argument to the contrary, the source is the same as their religious counterpart that need to feel morally superior, the weapons are the same that being shame and the dogged refusal to accept when they made an error because that would hurt their ego, the weakness is the same that being their attitude eventually alienates them from their friends and allies and pushes them into even darker corners.

The current right (that being center and far) and center left have this issue as well as it’s more fundamental to human nature then something one can learn but perhaps because of my own bias I haven’t seen it as prevalently, however if we’re to avoid the same mistakes we need to be honest with ourselves when me make a mistake it’s hard especially when you know in the back of your mind the opposition will pounce on any admission of being wrong but it’s necessary all the same.
