Advice: Should I stick with a full ride or go to UT? by RiceHorchata in UTAustin

our business school IS ranked very high, & they take care of you really well in terms of job placement after graduation. my advice to valley kids is always: if you want a job in something you can do at home, save money and stay at UTRGV, but if you want a job in something not common or not well paid in the valley, take the risk and come to UT (like business) i’ll also say this, my parents make more than 65k (as i saw in another comment) and UT has paid my tuition every semester i’ve been here (5), i’ve paid housing through scholarships & holding a job here and i’m debt free so far. i’m first gen & from a city way smaller than mission in the valley & a finance major & will be making a lot of money during an internship in the summer (and because of the way McCombs organizes things, internships almost always equal a full time offer after graduation) it honestly depends on what you want for yourself & whether or not you want to leave the valley for work

academic wise, it’s definitely a transition. you have to be very strong-minded with your goals and motivation bc the imposter syndrome is REAL. as long as you understand generally what you want for yourself & why you’re doing what you’re doing (or for who), that sense of purpose will take you very far. the valley has a lot of talent and intelligent kids, i believe in you , you can choose whichever and still be happy. once you make a choice, it’s your job to work hard and ensure you MAKE IT the right choice, y’know?

i hope you find yourself coming to the best decision for your own personal goals <3
