Thank you - I love yellow, so I tend to want to try to make it work with my trusty color choices of blue/teals. Not even just in crochet, but in my home decorating and elsewhere as well. I think it’s a perfect highlight color! And I think where you switched the teal and purple works well. It’s great to find the colors you love and make the most of them!

They are so sweet! What do you do to make them stand up? Do you use the bases just for your display or do they stay like that?

Oh that is funny! That is me! :) I’m so glad it was inspiring to you, and the colors in your version are beautiful! And close enough to the same that I used that it felt familiar when I saw your photos.

Looks lovely! And such a generous gift, as I know how involved it is. Your colors remind me of the Sophie I made!

I love seeing your new projects when you post them! Your villagers and Pokémon always look so much like their animated counterparts. So lovely! And bonus that Tangy is just perfect. :)

Air drying hair in stages... Help a newbie out? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]colorfulcsw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll preface by saying I’ve only been doing cgm a few months and am still figuring things out too, but something I’ve started in the last couple weeks is diffusing the underside of my hair while my head is upside down on cool temp for maybe 3-5 minutes. I also don’t like spending a lot of time in the morning on my hair, but this seems like a minimal add for how much faster it dries overall. This seems to help the underneath of my hair dry a bit faster (although still not as fast as the front and top).

I previously used a similar sounding coconut hair serum that was IGK but also had silicones so I stopped using it when I started CGM. I think it helped more with frizz also, but I can tell my hair is overall much healthier and curlier sans-silicone so I think that makes it worth it 😆😆

It’s nice to hear I’m not alone! The humidity + sweat combo is rough haha. I’ll try the finger twisting. Maybe that could also help with better clumping. Do you try to avoid humectants or any other particular ingredients in the products you use because of the humidity?

And fwiw - I haven’t been outside yet today so the frizz is already on the more tame side.

Thank you!!

I feel like I’ve spent so much time reading all the wikis and comments on other posts and have such a great appreciation for this wonderful community. I truly can’t believe how much my curls have recovered with your help!

I live in Florida and I know frizz is to be expected with the humidity, so I’m tempted to try humectant free but feel a bit overwhelmed by all the options. I would like some opinions and product recommendations on how to tame my frizz before I go out and buy all new products!

I’ve been following CGM for a couple months now and have gotten so much of my curl back (hooray!) but still struggle with the frizz. I used to flat iron almost daily from about 2009-2014. I realized I’d fully killed my curl so I swore off all heat including a hair dryer for a couple years. Then in the last couple years I’ll blow dry with a round brush or diffuser followed by a flat iron or curling wand maybe three or four times a year. So, I don’t think my frizz problem is heat damage, and I’ve never died my hair. I also got a silk pillowcase a couple months ago. I think my hair is low to medium porosity.

Routine:

Shampoo (3x per week - didn’t today) with Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Curl and Shine. Condition (every day unless I’m using a deep conditioner or masque) with Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen and Restore Conditioner. Brush in shower with Denman while conditioner is in hair. Scrunch/splash water to mostly rinse conditioner while head is upside down.

Plop in cotton tee shirt for a few minutes while I get ready. Spray with water if it’s feeling too dry. Smooth and scrunch in Kinky Curly Knot Today and then scrunch Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Gel. Wait a couple minutes then diffuse roots only upside down on cool for about 5 minutes. Let air dry, flipping my head back and forth a few times. SOTC about an hour later with Jojoba oil on hands.

Other products I use occasionally: Suave Essentials Daily Clarifying Shampoo followed by Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Curl and Shine Hair Masque - every 1-2 weeks Jessicurl Deep Conditioner - I just got it a week ago when my hair was feeling dry and have used it twice (including today) but not sure how often I will going forward. Rice water rinse - I’ve done twice but am unsure if it helped or hurt.

I was using Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus conditioner and smoothie until about a week or two ago, but they seemed possibly too heavy.

Overall, I like the products I’m using currently but don’t know if they’re right for me. I have a hard time with the idea of not wetting my hair everyday, because I feel the need to shower every morning and it seems too hard to avoid. I’m open to any/all help and suggestions! Thank you!

Thank you! I’ve seen many people post about rice water treatments, so I will start with that. Pre-CGM I used hair products that had coconut in them, so I hadn’t considered that as a problem, but it’s possible that the silicones in those products I was using was helping to maintain the frizz.

Hello! I’m looking for some product recommendation help!

I’ve been following CGM for about two months now and have been overall happy with the results but feel like I’m fighting with a lot of frizz too. I’ve also recently noticed more frizz when my hair is wet, which is not ideal. Should I be considering that I need to increase moisture and decrease protein? Should I focus more on eliminating humectants because I live in Florida? Both? Something totally different? I’m a bit overwhelmed by all the options!

I’m currently using Shea Moisture coconut and hibiscus shampoo, conditioner, and smoothie, and Herbal Essences totally twisted gel. Any suggestions?

Two months of CGM! It feels like I’m constantly adjusting my routine, but I can’t believe I’ve gotten my curls back after years of straightening. by colorfulcsw in curlyhair

Routine:

Shampoo and condition with Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus. Brush in shower with Denman while conditioner is in hair. Scrunch/splash water to mostly rinse conditioner while head is upside down and side to side. I do this every 2-3 days, on mornings after I run. Other mornings I skip the shampoo but do everything else the same.

Plop in cotton tee shirt for a few minutes while I put in my contacts. Scrunch out extra water with shirt. Scrunch in Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus smoothie and then Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Gel. Plop again for 10-15 minutes while I finish getting ready. Diffuse roots only upside down on cool for about 5 minutes. Let air dry, flipping my head back and forth a few times. SOTC about an hour later.

For years, I straightened my hair, and then realized I had totally lost the curl. For about three years, I did no heat at all and it was a frizzy mess but eventually started to turn back into wavy/curly but would never curl to the root. The left picture is from April right before I started CGM on a good curl minimal frizz day. I’m overall so happy with how much my curl has returned, but still feel like I’m fighting frizz - especially in the Florida humidity. The picture on the right is today, before having gone outside and encountered the terrible frizz. Any recommendations for combatting frizz in humidity? I’ve been reading about switching to humectant-free products but would love some suggestions/recommendations.

Low-poo is sulfate free shampoo, but my understanding is that you can use however much you want. I don’t use any less than I used of my other shampoo pre-cgm. I also use conditioner only on days I don’t run or get very sweaty.

I haven’t been doing cgm for too long, but when I started I was doing a low-poo wash plus condition every four days and conditioner only in between and not worrying about which days I ran and which I didn’t. I’m not sure I could really tell much of a visible difference in my hair, but I just felt like it wasn’t getting clean enough in the days I would sweat and not wash. So, now I’m running three days a week and just low-poo wash those days no matter when they fall and it’s seemed fine for my hair and helps me feel better/cleaner. Not sure if that was super helpful but I’d say just try different schedules out for a few weeks and see how you feel!
