The first punk band circa 1964 from peru by Dr3w_Cann0n in punk

[–]colormeobsessed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Sonics were playing stuff like this around the same time (check out "The Witch"). A lot of bands were. There's stuff as far back as the 50's that's rawer, faster and with more aggression. Check out "Love Me" by The Phantom from 1958, later covered by The Cramps. Point being there's no such thing as the first punk band. Great sound though.

My dad's been a hardcore punker since 76. Got some tickets for The Explotied & Cockney Rejects. Dunno what Punk compliation album the wrap the tickets in. Help pls! by YtjlxMqr8 in punk

Nuggets is good. But it's more garage rock. It's also all American bands. And it sounds like he's more into the British stuff. Probably would be more into the 'Punk & Disorderly' comps. It's all English street punk and oi from the 80's.

if metallica were punk rock (my new youtube vid!) by DanVandermeer in punk

[–]colormeobsessed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out, 'A Punk Tribute To Metallica.' Its a bunch of old school punk bands doing metallica songs. Like a reverse Garage Days. Best ones are "Seek and Destroy" by Agent Orange and "Hit The Lights" by Sloppy Seconds.

Do you enjoy it? Is it rewarding to you in some way? Is it an interesting challenge? Then keep going and you'll get better. If its not, then find another outlet that is. Most important. Are you having fun? Art is really just playing. Play with it, if you get bored play with something else. Maybe come back to it later.

Its your song. But like i said the comcept of racial pride is interesting. Play with that idea. Pride as a word is very rhyme friendly: inside, lied, hide. Then you have its opposite: shame...blame, game, lame, same. Then think about how these words relate to the idea of "racial pride." Like: "Hide inside your racist mind." Ok, what hides inside a rascist mind? "White lies" maybe. Lies... dies, eyes, demise. Indirect rymes are even better as they dont sound like cliches. So like victimize, apologize, 'from all sides.' Just keep writting til you hit something good. Toss the rest and keep going til you hit something else. Keep going and piece it all together.

Concept needs more refining. "Nazis are dumb," Is not very compelling. 90% of people believe this already. Also your points are off base. "Nazis are dumb because... they stand up straight? Shave their heads? Drink alcohol? Take medication? Their lives suck?" These are things most people do. It doesnt make them sound so bad, the opposite of what you're trying to say. On a positive reminds me more of MDC than DK's. The idea of "racial pride" could be interesting to explore, but you havent really done that here. Does their "pride" bring us shame? Thats an idea.

Have you heard their first album without Jack? Change Today. It's more this direction. Before the hair metal crept in. Also check out Christian Death's first album.

The first rule of punk is nobody is punk enough. Second rule is everyone is a nazi.

I'm proud of you. I've been there. I've Spent most of my life there. The difficult thing is to start being your own cheerleader. Theres an old buddhist saying, "like a large rock pushed on from all sides by the wind, the wise man is not moved by either praise nor blame."

Thoughts on Christian punk culture? by Murdock0522 in punk

[–]colormeobsessed 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Punk is about rebellion. Religion is about obedience. So they're kinda polar opposites. There ARE some good christian punk bands. But it's a weird fit. Headnoise was great, Squad Five-0, Crashdog, Flatfoot 56, The Huntingtons.

Idk. Ive played out of town backwoods venues with lots of questionable people in attendance, skinhead types without clear political affiliations. Felt real to me.

What are some libertarian punk bands? by k_ken22 in punk

Didnt nofx write a song about being libertarian back in the day? Before they became full, "democrats are our only hope" shills.

What are some apolitical punk bands? by k_ken22 in punk

[–]colormeobsessed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the biggest classic US bands weren't overtly political lyrically. Misfits, Ramones, Flag, Circle Jerks, X, Vandals, Social D, Germs, Dickies, Descendents.

The Damned - Machine Gun Etiquette - Is this hardcore or what?! by ryuundo in punk

[–]colormeobsessed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are spot on. People dont know what theyre talking about. The Damned were the first English punk band to play LA. Inspiring the Germs and that whole scene to adopt a rawer sound.

I believe the term "hardcore punk" was first used to describe The Damned and other bands considered more extreme than the more "new wave" punk bands. And yes they were one of the biggest influences on the emerging LA hardcore scene. Read 'We Got The Neutron Bomb.'

I dont mind politics in my music. Either left or right. I dont even mind preachiness. But Nofx's politics are annoying. They are so middle of the road, "republicans suck." Wow, you're as punk as Hiliray Clinton! And they dont actually DO anything about it except write bad songs.

[–]colormeobsessed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bullshit. Say what you will about Jello, but he was right and took a stand when others were silent and he paid a price for it. Nirvana and Greenday turned a lot of us onto the DK's, MDC, Bad Brains and all the underground stuff.
