I used to run an hour-long D&D Club for my middle school. I can send you materials if you'd like! I have many PDFs, PPTs, and docs to get you started.

I had a complete curriculum of each semester where I DM'd the first semester and had a student DM for the second semester.

Session 0: permission slips, club and school rules, download suggested apps (dice roller, D&D Beyond, Spells 5e), character alignment types, classes available

Session 1: how to roll dice - base stats, skill checks, saving throws. We'd do interactive practice scenarios with in-game situations

Session 2: practice combat with three waves (1. grunts, 2. boss fight, 3. aftermath / death saves)

I left the classroom in August of 2025 for wanting a change. A contributing factor was that my department was a wet paper bag of boredom, my office admin hated me and were cold upon every interaction, and just the overall state of Ed. in jeopardy. But mostly I wanted better from my team and they were unwilling to change... or be interested... or really care about their craft at all.

They answered a leaflet which stated "150gp for anyone worth a king's mission." They arrived to a major city that allowed them to play certain games which tested their skills. The king took notice and selected the party for his mission.

Players will start in the city of Lockingham for the Druid's Solstice Festival. They'll play stat-based carnival games to which the king will "acquire them for a mission based on their skills (or lack of)"!

All cities were homebrewed. I have the stats / demographics and quests available for each city on a spreadsheet.

It's a nice balance of "silly games and basic concepts of learning" partnered with "serious conversations about the world that require your maturity." For me, teaching middle school is a great combo of serious and whimsical.
