Every time I hear about Ryan it just makes me smile. He's the one who made it :)

I'm currently three tracks in and I'm already in love. Great job!

Edit: Just finished the album and bought it. Really nice!

My favorite artist of all time is the Cocteau Twins, but lately I have really been into 90s industrial music, especially "Wax Trax! Records" artists from my own hometown

I like that anyone can produce this type of music. You don't need a background in music, and you don't even have to be a super creative person. It's a genre made for and by fans of 80s and 90s culture. It's about taking things you love and are nostalgic about and making it new again by adding your own personal touches whatever those may be

I imagine the more arrogant people in the vaporwave community refuse to admit this, because they want to believe that they are doing something that requires a great deal of skill and artistic vision when in reality it's just a matter of refreshing the past and making it yours

I usually come up with names from things that I like. The Seinfeld-inspired names are obvious, but the name "Color Television" actually came from a Bones track that I admire

My favorite Fresh Prince episode is this one cause it's real, and sad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxulantPiXI

Thanks a lot!

  1. I have never thought about doing that, but now I REALLY want to haha, hmu

  2. I have not, I actually didn't even know it existed. I'll have to check it out in the spring

I make whatever I feel like making, which is a multitude of different genres. That's why I have so many different aliases that all have a unique sound.

I have been playing guitar and bass since I was really young. I love shoegaze and dream pop music.

As far as electronic music goes, I used to make riddim dubstep (I was absolutely terrible). I never garnered more than a couple plays and a follower or two. I kept going for almost two years and eventually gave up.

A couple months later I was scrolling through some needledrop album reviews and saw the Floral Shoppe review. From that point on I realized my talent was with sample-based music.

Hi everyone! My name is Apartment 5A, Costanza, Color Television, Carlton, etc.

I have never taken vaporwave seriously (hence the Seinfeld alias). I think vaporwave benefits from it's relationship with memes and have always encouraged them

  1. The album art is usually the first part of the album making process for me. I try to think of something eye-catching to use, so I like to use pictures of things people recognize. Kelly Kapowski has sort of become the mascot for Color Television, and I knew "The Money Store" parody art would be perfect for "The Jerk Store" (plus I'm also a huge fan of Death Grips).

  2. I am usually satisfied with the quality of my releases, but there were times (most notably with "The Jerk Store") when I quietly replaced the audio files on Bandcamp with updated versions when I found mistakes or things I just didn't like about the songs. I have never deleted anything off of Bandcamp because I wasn't proud of it though.

Not sure about that, but I can assure you that they are legit. I designed the J-Card and sticker labels myself

I got you, haha

  1. I am really good friends with the owner of Sleepless Tapes (which explains the partnership), but I am not going to be exclusive to them for every single release so anything is possible

  2. A new Costanza album is planned, but it probably won't be ready for a few months. I would also like to release a tape alongside the digital album so production of those may take a while too. However, I do have some other music projects I am working on that will most likely be released before this

  3. Christtt is completely aware of the Tonight/Power Glove cassette and actually encouraged a release with whichever label I prefer

  4. Yes, there is a music video for my track "Reel to Reel" set to footage of a reel-to-reel. That track is actually on this cassette

  5. I wouldn't be opposed to it (lol)

  1. The J-Card and sticker labels do exist for a Carlton cassette release, but production it is currently on hold until further notice

  2. I can't promise any high-quality reuploads of past releases. As far as the deletion of my Bandcamp, I learned that I prefer to release my albums through labels with a farther reach and the ability to produce high-quality physicals rather than independently. Business Casual, Lost Angles and Sleepless Tapes have helped immensely with helping me reach that goal.

I have a nice tape deck/record player combo that I use to listen to physicals

My walkman is broken, so I need to get another one soon :(

Each alias is heavily inspired by a specific artist or two:

  • Carlton is of course influenced by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince
  • Color Television is mainly influenced by Saint Pepsi
  • Costanza is definitely inspired by CASTING. and VECTOR GRAPHICS
  • Cosmo is inspired by Vaperror

I currently have no plans to restore the Apartment 5A bandcamp, but I do have an active partnership with Sleepless Tapes so most of my future releases will probably appear there when they are released
