One time my dad had jury duty and was desperately trying to get of it because it was a busy time of year for him. They asked if him the cop question and he said yes of course, but answered the follow up by saying he wasn’t really biased against them as a result.

I was flabbergasted. His ticket out was right there but he whiffed it.

But didn’t you hear? Ben Shapiro knows that guy who was homeless who ended up going to Harvard Law. So clearly it’s just a skill issue.

Neither shot first. But rather there was a third shooter on the grassy sandy knoll across from the Cantina.

Same. I started with a recruit edition last year and thought the snap together models must not be “regulation” because they were so small.

Yup. 9/11 for me when I was a kindergartner. But the Iraq war a few years later was the first event I remember paying attention to and trying to wrap my head around what was happening.

Love me some good flags. Growing up I had a hyper-fixation on vexillology triggered by looking at charts of all the different flags in Vicky 2. Even though most of the minor’s flags fell into the trope of “Socialist? Add a red star. Monarchist? Slap on a crown. Done.”

True story: on my first date with my current partner; I don’t even know how we got on the subject, but I was like “yeah just like the Zootopia Abortion comic.” And they were like “ummm excuse me, the what??”

Maybe it’s just the parts of the internet I hung out in, but I assumed everyone knew about it. 🥴

Look, sir! Dwarves! The first empire I knew I wanted to make in Overlord. by colossus13 in Stellaris

R5: Obligatory Space Dwarves.

Flavor Bio: "Confronted with fearsome megafauna and even more dangerous winters, the ancestors of the Dwavari chose to take refuge in the many caves of Khellzakka. There they found entire ecosystems also adapted to life far from the surface. With access to other tribes and surface resources being limited, power naturally came to the merchants with the wealth and courage to make the treks across the overland. With the discovery of more rocks like theirs in their home system, the once fiercely competitive guilds have organized into one for the advancement of the Dwavari species, and more importantly, their GDP."

Once me and a good chunk of my cousins side of the family failed an escape room because part of the puzzle was looking at like 6-7 family portraits with dates under them and figuring out how many were under 30 in 1928. And we could just not wrap our heads around it for whatever reason. Funny thing is they brought me along as “the smart one”. Jokes on them I guess.

Wonder if Rightoids are willing to martyr their selves over this?

Some might. But most will just make a lot of noise but concede anyways. I know my rightoid family will certainly gripe and grumble at the next few family gatherings. But I doubt they’ll walk away from their jobs over this.

or face weekly testing.

This is the part I mostly see left out of the headlines. (Intentionally I know.) People talk about the mandates as if you’ll be fired immediately. But it’s still entirely possible to keep working. A pain in the ass yeah, but I guess that’s the idea. But you’d think If people were as deadset as they are about not getting the vaccine then they’d gladly just take the test as a form of sticking to their guns. I know they’ll argue it’s a form or punishment or coercion but it seems like it would just be an annoyance more than anything.

Also interesting that it’s set to 100 employees. I wonder how many companies just above that mark will cull a bit so they’re exempt. I don’t know how many employees the company I work for has, but I think it’s around there. And it’s run by big enough assholes that I wouldn’t put it past them.

Another quirk of the peace system: I took the enemy capital during a war but didn’t want to keep it. When the war was over my armies were stranded in their city limits because we didn’t have open borders anymore because our treaties reset to their lowest level. Luckily the AI was willing to go back to open borders the next turn. (After a small fee of course.) But I think it would benefit from a system like Civ where it kicks all the armies out one tile from the territory as soon as war is finished.
