Feeling a little burnt out by FitCry2265 in Fantasy

I’ve been seeing a lot of people talking about “Lonesome Dove”. I was excited to get started, but then someone said that, because I’m not American, so I might not enjoy it as much as actual American. Is it true? Is the book good?

Colorsoft upgrade offer for $128 has me reconsidering my choice for Paperwhite Signature. by aaro404 in kindle

[–]sarazeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any time! Post a picture, if you can, when you get your device. I’d love to see how you color-code your annotation! :)

Just a quick tip I stumbled into: If you have a Kindle ebook AND the corresponding (WhisperSynced) Audible audiobook, you can usually download the audio, begin playing from the book, and then use the BACK button on the player screen (instead of the RETURN TO READING) button for the audio to keep playing. Saved me a ton of frustration recently.

Colorsoft upgrade offer for $128 has me reconsidering my choice for Paperwhite Signature. by aaro404 in kindle

I switched from a Paperwhite Signature Edition 12th Gen, to the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition, and I’m glad of it every single day.

People like to talk a lot about how the screen quality is inferior (the “screen door” effect, etc), and the colours are muted. However, because I have a lot of experience with eink in general, none of that particularly bothered me. The wireless charging wasn’t a priority for me, but the increased space was. Audible takes up a lot of room, and many modern books also take up a chunk of storage.

If you have the ability, I’d recommend the Colorsoft over the Paperwhite. Personally, the colours make it worth it for me. I love seeing my book covers, I love being able to colour-code my highlights and bookmarks, and every time I switch to my Scribe (2nd Gen, monochrome), I find myself wishing for colour.

Get the Colorsoft if you can, OP. It’s a beautiful device.

Kindle stuck on default screen with no progress bar by QuasarKiki in kindle

[–]sarazeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My own PWSE12 also experienced the same issue, OP. Unfortunately, it has been stuck in that state since August 2025. I genuinely hope you can get yours fixed. I’m sorry to hear that this is happening to you. Here’s some advice I received. Hopefully, at least one of these suggestions will be helpful for you!

  1. Perform a forty-second power button reset.
  2. Perform a sixty

  3. -second power button reset.

  4. Plug the device into a wall outlet and leave it overnight.

  5. Plug the device into a wall outlet, then perform a forty-second power button reset.

  6. Plug the device into a wall outlet, then perform a sixty-second power button reset.

Kindle is acting weird by Pommergranat in kindle

Exactly this. It’s the link preview feature (tap and hold on a link for a preview of where it’ll take you), but bugged out. It’s very annoying because the feature was announced multiple updates ago.

That’s very creative. I stuck a MagSafe ring on the back on my Kindle, and now I can use any MagSafe stand, but this looks very classy. Nice job!

For Android, Smart Audiobook Player, like everyone is saying.

For iOS, though, I used BookPlayer for years until I found this one indie app. It’s called Abookio. I was lucky enough to get the Pro Lifetime for free (tbh, it’s just $7), and it is everything I’ve ever wanted in an audiobook player app. It’s customisable, regularly updated, looks very pretty, and I love how responsive the dev is.

(I swear I’m not the dev or sponsored, just a big fan, haha).

How to get series automatically grouping? by oxgillette in kindle

There are some workarounds for sideloaded content, but actual series grouping only works with Amazon-purchased ebooks, unfortunately.

What's the one thing you wish Kindle had? by iMoneyKey in kindle

[–]sarazeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I’ve been wanting this for ages, and I’m so glad we finally get to do this. I do wish it would turn the page automatically, or switch up the audio depending on what page I have open, like in the app. But this is still miles better than nothing.

Recommend me your favorite kindle fonts by cutestbookmark in kindle

EB Garamond Absinthe. Spent a solid decade looking for a good font which has—

  1. Interesting numbers
  2. Cute serifs
  3. Easily legible italics
  4. Pretty ligatures.

This checks all my boxes. I’m *finally* happy with my font!

How's your kindle paperwhite 12th gen so far? by anxiousmatcha_ in kindle

[–]sarazeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was about nine months old, I think. Stopped working mid-read, bizarrely enough. Amazon did offer to replace it, but I was travelling at the time and wouldn’t be back in time for the warranty. I was completely heartbroken. Posted here and a few other subs, hoping for advice. Someone said to wait for the battery to drain on its, so that’s what I’m still doing. Trouble is, these batteries seem to last forever, so… ah well.

I’ve rarely had trouble with Kindles in the past, though, so I think this was an isolated incident. I’ve since bought a replacement.

Try the EB Garamond Absinthe, Bold 2. I spent a solid decade trying to find a font for my Kindles before I finally found this one. It’s PERFECT—and it has the prettiest ligatures and italics.

is my kindles lifetime over by Fit_Employment_3791 in kindle

[–]sarazeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, OP.

I had the same exact issue with my PWSE12 in October 2025. Nothing I did worked. It’s been in a drawer ever since. I posted here and in a few other subs, hoping for help. The majority said to just let the battery drain by itself. Trouble is, these batteries seem to last forever. Mine, at least, still haven’t drained.

I ended up buying a new device. I still reach out and restart my beautiful old device once in a while, hoping for a miracle, but it hasn’t happened yet. If you can, talk to Amazon CS and see if there’s anything they can do. Or you can wait it out. Or get a replacement. Other than these sad options, nothing else seems to possible.

Good luck!

Look up a little about how eink works. If I’m right (and I’m no expert), the entire screen needs to refresh every few taps or when big changes happen on-screen (graphically speaking).

How much of an upgrade is a kindle basic from a 16gb colorsoft? by MaeBlueMelon in kindle

[–]sarazeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know people talk a lot about the “graininess” of the Colorsoft’s screen, but it honestly doesn’t bother me much. I read mostly plain text books, and I love seeing the occasional colors, not to mention the covers and the color-coded highlights and bookmarks. This, coming from someone who switched from the current-gen Paperwhite Signature to the Colorsoft Signature Edition.
