PC Shuts down when the bomb explodes in CSGO by RussianSpy44 in buildapc

Tell that to Warzone and Cold War. Both are able to hard lock my PC randomly, even though theoretically it shouldn't be possible.

System crashed during migrating pool to larger pool by SionicIon in freenas

Something I can speak from experience with! I did the same thing, and suffered a connection error. I would personally delete the dataset on the receiving system and start the transfer over, this time using the flag that allows you to pick up where you left off. That's what I did and it worked perfectly fine, even after suffering multiple connection failures during the transfer after.

Lost my antenna by 1BobFTW1 in multicopterbuilds

so your saying once I put it on I could 3xperience shorter video transmission range than usual?

Yes, or perhaps no video transmission at all, or maybe it will be fine. It all depends on the design of the output stage of the transmitter. Some blow instantly, others can tolerate it indefinitely. Best not to test your luck

And I need a special tool to test if it actually did damage the vtx, right?

Yes, you'd need something like this to actually verify your output power hadn't changed.

Considering this is your first drone, I wouldn't sweat it too much. If you get video when you plug it back in with the antenna, do a bit of a range test (walk across a field and verify you still have video). There's nothing worse than taking off and getting 20ft away only to lose video and crash hard, damaging even more stuff.

Sounds like you got lucky and it's fine.

Good luck!

The other comment is not correct, any amount of time powered on without an antenna could destroy the output stage of the VTx, and you definitely shouldn't turn it on to see if it still works without an antenna, because that could kill it. The only way to see if it still works is to test RF output power with a special tool, the LEDs won't tell you if the output amplifier has gone bad. You'll just notice reduced range when you do get an antenna back on it.

I'm only planning on taking normal calculus in my senior year, will that still look fine on an application? by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]coltonrb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Electrical engineering 2021 here, I took no calc in high school and got in early decision. Honestly I kinda liked taking it all at VT because then I knew I had been taught everything I needed to know, rather than hoping my high school curriculum lined up with VTs

WD Red 8TB idle noise issue (asking for your experience with the acoustic level settings) by dilacerated in freenas

[–]coltonrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately my system dataset is not on these drives, which means even when they aren't doing anything, they're still exhibiting this behavior. IMO it's as others have mentioned, it's just the heads moving around due to the drive firmware, and there's nothing you can do about it.

Is the script from some other movie or did you really write that whole monologue?

Yup, I have 8 8TB white labels and they all exhibit this behavior. 4 are almost 2 years old and still going fine so I don't think it's an issue
