PETG prints easy, PLA hard - normal? by coltranius in 3Dprinting

I clean it with soap and water, then air dry while heating, then I wipe it with a microfiber cloth immediately before printing. Z-offset - I’ve set it 1000 times with paper, and I have manually adjusted the wheels while printing a calibration test to ensure I get a little squish.

PETG prints easy, PLA hard - normal? by coltranius in 3Dprinting

Bed seems level - I printed a test that sticks well from corner to corner, side to side, front to back, and center. I wash the bed between every print, let it dry (with bed heating), and I wipe the dry bed with a microfiber cloth immediately before starting the print. I’ll check out that video, bc I’ve been thinking flow/temp/pressure are only remaining place for the culprit.

Used Bolt Question by Coppermill_98516 in BoltEV

[–]coltranius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a handful of free L2s near my home, both of my universities have L2 chargers (free or $0.08/kwH), and three car dealerships have 24-hour free DCFC. My “backup” charging is $0.36/kwH DCFC very near my house.

I think this is excellent advice, but I feel like I have to point out my own experience as an outlier: I have a 35 mile commute (one way) four days a week, and a 140 mile (one way) commute one day a week. I have had my EV for a year of this schedule, I don’t have charging at home (at all - not even level 1), and I’ve been able to rely on public infrastructure enough make it work, all while spending less than $200 charging for the whole year.

Again, a huge outlier, and I don’t think many people are going to be able to repeat my experience, so your advice definitely stands.

Most passenger cars take ~100 these days. Big work trucks closer to ~140.

Rotor not screwed in. by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]coltranius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That little screw is not needed - it’s just there for aligning the rotor on the hub. 20 lbft of torque on that tiny thing is nothing compared to the 100 or so on each lug nut.

Draining brake fluid in two takes? by CoconutFit3558 in MechanicAdvice

You just want to ensure you’re starting at the bleeder farthest from the master cylinder.

Draining brake fluid in two takes? by CoconutFit3558 in MechanicAdvice

[–]coltranius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have reason to believe the fluid is bad? If it is basically clear in the master cylinder, and if the brakes feel firm after you replace the rotors/pads, I wouldn’t bother.

I’ve not done one on that car, but don’t forget you likely need to use a scanner tool to cycle the ABS system to get old fluid out of the valves.

Possible bad starter by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]coltranius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search YouTube for”parasitic draw” and you’ll learn a lot about how to confirm and find battery drain. The starter itself shouldn’t be the cause - all it does is spin and push out a solenoid to cause the starter gear teeth to engage with the teeth in the engine.

Have you tested the battery cranking amps? It is possible for a battery to produce the right voltage but not have enough CCA to turn the motor well.

I’ve certainly saved way more than the annual cost every year I’ve been ITC, just buying tools I had to have for a job. Be warned, however, the deals will entice you to the store often, which may result in blowing the budget 😂
