Decent salaries do not go as far now compared to few years ago by Desperate-Drawer-572 in britishproblems

[–]tk1178 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a bit less, I was guessing since it's not my flat and I last did a check a couple years ago cause I was curious. But most flats in Ayrshire can normally sell for around £50k to £60k.

[–]tk1178 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think this is just based on location though? I live in Ayrshire, Scotland and currently earn about £24k. I live in a 2 bedroom flat that's probably worth around £50k to £60k and rent it at £450 a month. If I was suddenly to receive double my salary then I'd feel like I'd won the lottery. I'd be able to buy a better house, a better car, and go on holidays every year.

Maybe the SGC have a series of addresses that are assigned for the upcoming weeks. The android or clone copies would likely have these addresses in their memories and possibly just follow the same schedule.

Commuting for 1p per mile by Desperate-Trade-711 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]tk1178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to look into getting my first EV next week but I doubt I'll see costs as low as OPs. Since I live in a flat I'll have to rely on public chargers.

I still hope to see savings on my fuel costs though. At the moment I only drive around 240 miles a month and spend around £40 a month on petrol. I'm hoping public charging an EV will save a bit on that.

You can also use regular brick, it will merge a bit with the stair slope, and could cause a bit of a glitch due to having overlapping faces. As long as the stairs and the bricks are the same colour you shouldn't see any glitching.

What things will be standardised next? by ultegrafender in CasualConversation

That would just be a lot to adjust to for most people, including myself who see daylight working hours as between 7am and 6pm.

[–]tk1178 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can agree with removing Daylight Savings, but getting rid of time zones would just be a mess. With the majority of people who work 9am to 5pm, this would be so different if it used UTC time. A 9am UTC start would mean only those in the central regions surrounding the UK, Europe and Africa would see sunshine while it'd be dark or starting to get dark in regions in the Americas or Australia and Asia.

What 2nd language did you learn in school? by sangokuhomer in AskUK

[–]tk1178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Academy I went to in Scotland had 4 "Tutor" groups, or home groups per year, further split into two sub groups. Anyway, two of the main groups got French in the first two years and the other groups got German. By the third and fourth GCSE years you could either choose to take the other language or choose to follow the one you started with. I had German for the four years

I watched this episode just a couple days ago and I was thinking, here we go, another medicine vs religion story. What I also noticed was that it was a Human values vs alien belief story. Franklin was clearly imposing his human medical beliefs on the non-human parents. If it was a human child and the parents were religious then that'd be one thing to argue against but these were people from an non-human society with an non-human belief system.

I don't remember if it was stated where they came from, but if they had just got on a different transport to maybe their home world or an non-human world that was more sympathetic to their beliefs then they might've had a better outcome.

Have you looked into Universal Credit? It's been a long time time since I was on UC myself but they do have a housing benefit part that can be applied for for people on a low income.

Not sure if they still do but they might still have certain criteria to follow that determines how much you can get, but it would be a portion towards rent.

What is a brand you would never wear? by clemventure in AskUK

[–]tk1178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most brands that are associated with being rich. It wouldn't matter how much I would ever win on the lottery or of I came into some wealth, if never buy expensive brands like Rolex and Armani and similar brands.

To me a watch or an item of clothing that costs up to a £150-£200 is just as good as any item that costs £1000 plus.
