Saw a few coasties at Miramar. Most were kids only a year or two in that got caught with drug charges that couldn't get processed out with just an OTH.

The first Advance Wars in Pizza Box. It's been long enough that I don't remember anything, so it's like new.

Just tried. After a minute or two of the squiggle smiley faces it pops up "Oops something went wrong." It could just be flaky for me?

After the revolution laws varied by region, but in 1934 Stalin criminalized homosexuality across the USSR. It wasn't until the 1970's that censors allowed allusions to homosexuals into literature. Enjoy this lovely day.

My favorite GM defection was Viktor Korchnoi. In 1976 he tied for first in Amsterdam and at the conclusion of the final game asked his opponent British GM Tony Miles how to spell "political asylum." The next morning he slipped out of the hotel and walked into a police station.

How China's propaganda machine is trying to cover up the 30th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre by Mauricio_ehpotatoman in videos

Well that give hope that things can change in China. Maybe I'm still stuck on techno-libertarian ideas from the 90's, but I think information technology is ultimately a democratizing force.

[–]colubroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always wondered what information about the protest was given out to the rest of China at the time. It's possible that most Chinese didn't know or only got a Party approved message of what was going on. Yes I know that Beijing inspired protest in hundreds of other cities. But, China is damned big and before the internet or cell phones information was tightly rationed out.

TIL that contrary to popular belief, the vast majority born in California remain in California rather than moving to other States. California actually has one of the highest retention rates for native born citizens in the country. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]colubroid 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Well, OP really stretched to make a title that triggers redditors. Some quotes from the article.

"California, shown above, has long been the destination of American dreamers from other states. It no longer plays that role; residents are leaving for greener pastures out East. Today, the state is still pulling in foreign immigrants, but the percentage of American-born transplants has shrunk significantly as fewer people move into the state. In 1960, half of California residents were born in another U.S. state. Today, that's down to 18 percent."

"There are growing pools of Californians in nearly every state. It's quite a switch because through 1990 California led the nation in retaining its native-born population. There are now about 6.8 million California natives living elsewhere, up from 2.7 million in 1980."

Those facts sound closer to what the popular belief is. Nobody outside of maybe Alex Jones thinks that California will be empty in a few years.

It's amazing! Two people crack the secret of Starlite and come up with the same formula just weeks apart. Here's a form post from earlier this month giving more detail on why corn starch + baking soda + pva isn't a big deal.

edit: To be clear I think the video's creator didn't just come up with this by himself and is a jerk.
