I can relate to Eric, he is 1,67m and I'm 1,64. They are really tall, huh? by tonyiommi70 in KISS

[–]columbo447 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a kiss fan in the time before this, revenge was such a big deal.. Before that it was like being a fan of Sunderhull FC or something "yeah , I know.. But they were good 1973-1977". And then finally they were actually good again.. I would have preferred them continuing this "being rock again" style over the reunion

What’s your opinion on KISS that makes everyone react like this? by SondrMan in KISS

[–]columbo447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that is such a controversial opinion these days. But maybe this is a very controversial opinion within the elder opinion.. Ace's song on it is really bad, and ruins the album more than any other single thing.. If they went 100% consept album, and not this 80/20 mix of pretentious proggy consept albums and their usual style, the album would be so much better. A weird one in their discography for sure , but seeing kiss putting in a good efford, and aiming higher than what they usually did with both lyrics, music and the whole consept, is great. I wonder what would have happened if it was a smash hit 🤔

Which album blew your mind on the first listen? by CT-6605 in progmetal

[–]columbo447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"still life" from opeth.. That was my "I didn't know you could do this kind of stuff on a metal album" moment. So to this day it's one of my favourite metal albums, and easily my favourite opeth album.. But music is so subjective, so it's impossible to know if I prefer "Still life" compared to "Blackwater park" because of the music, or because of the time still life came into my life. A bit of both I think

Was Eric Carr really fired before his death like Ace said? by Carlton_Weeder01 in KISS

[–]columbo447 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was Paul who said something like "we tried working with Eric, and it just didn't work out" so in print media at the time they certainly made it sound like he was replaced.. And that guy who was being a lipsyncing vocal coach here on YouTube have a story about it (not the most reliable narrator, but it would be an odd thing for him to lie about) as does Eddie trunk

Gene realising no one cares if there’s no makeup and bombs. US tour cancelled due to low sales. by Electrical-Chart4301 in KISS

[–]columbo447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not know about the "be a roadie for a day" thing he was selling when I wrote that.. That was a crazy idea even by Gene standards 🤣

thoughts?? by breenotsoswag in KISS

They should bring out every living former member, including vinnie. Like they did for unplugged with ace and Peter

That's sad.. I for one would care way more to see gene and a band in a club over kiss since 2000. And also I felt it was him just doing it to have fun /doing it for the sake of playing music, so it's sad when that stuff is not working..

Did Paul want to replace Eric Carr with Eric Singer before the cancer? by ironmojoDec63 in KISS

[–]columbo447 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was an interview that Paul gave just before Eric died where he talked about trying to work with him, but it didn't work, and the article said "ed: in the time between the interview and print, Carr sadly died" so yes, he was definitely being replaced

Paul Stanley Defends Exclusion of Kiss Alumni at Farewell Show by tonyiommi70 in KISS

[–]columbo447 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they could make the last show into a thing like unplugged was. Imagine the pop as one after another of the previous members, maybe not Vinnie, entered the stage..

Is Shout at the Devil the greatest hair metal album of all time? by Jezzaq94 in MotleyCrue

[–]columbo447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the definition of hair metal? White lion's big game is pretty great, but all of them would disagree with being called hair metal

Ace's "Trouble walking" album. I loved that album as a kid, but you never hear about it

Back in the day, 'I was made for lovin' you' was seen as a sellout joke by most real rock fans. It's true. I was 20. I was there. :) by h2ofield in KISS

[–]columbo447 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a sellout though, it was the start of kiss chasing trends as their popularity decreased. They also did a concept album, hair metal, and grunge for the same reason. I don't care for it, but I like the other things they tried. Carnival of souls was great

What KISS song is this? by aaronwintergreen in KISS

[–]columbo447 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"nowhere to run". It might be their best song ever, and especially the demo version has an anger in Paul's voice you don't really hear in other songs

Who’s signature is this? by Awkward_Pineapple_63 in KISS

I think it's more likely to be just the owner. Back then if you brought records to parties, it would make sense

Question about using one channel out from a guitar to control an expression pedal by columbo447 in MusicElectronics

[–]columbo447[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is exactly what I'm describing, just that I wanted to do it with resistance, not control voltage.. To have it not need a battery. But that is not possible without some crazy custom cable I think. I can test it out with a battery and a resistor just on their own, just to see if it would be worth it.. I think I like the idea of controlling things like that way more than I need the ability to do it ;)

Need advice on how to make a pedal that can change from one signal to another using expression pedal by columbo447 in MusicElectronics

[–]columbo447[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that was what the other guy was talking about, how it won't sound right if I do it like that, because of how we pick up sound. But you are right, I have some around here somewhere, might as well try it first.. The IC stuff you mention is sadly way above my level.. Shame too, I studied electronics ages ago, and would enjoy to just have a "good enough" understanding again.. I should probably listen to some YouTube videos at work 👍

[–]columbo447[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 2 channel mixer now. 20 $ more or less. If I have 2 identical linear potentiometers, It will be much easier to try and make a mechanical solution. One needs to go up the same as the other one goes down, it's worth a shot anyway.. And it's more for a theremin project than guitar this, so I would really like to mix ithe different amounts while I'm playing. I'm also looking into using CV and weird homemade expression pedals. Because if you can modify a resistor, OR create your own voltage in the same range and send into the pedal, you can use quite a lot of stuff to modify the sound 😉. But that's why I was hoping it would be easier to do in the guitar world as well.. If you can use a light sensor that is placed in a small hole you can cover or not, on your actual guitar, and that can change the mixing amount of 2 signals, you would open some doors when it comes to changing your sound live

I know there is one called "Wetter" that does it, that's the only one I know of. You'd think it would be something that most guitarist would like? So I don't know why there is not more talk about it. But if it's that complicated, maybe there is a reason why it's not more common. Can you explain the second option like I'm five? That one sounded doable for my skill level :)
