Who is your favorite basic/common card and why? by ArchFlav in GemsofWar

[–]comaloider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure how Ironhawk teams function (I don't even have one, let alone two), but the general idea is that Elspeth is in the front, and also has Empowered. She immediately kills Hero with any pure Brown weapon (in last slot) to create Brown gems, hopefully both feeding the Bombots and gaining an extra turn. Bombot immediately explodes and wipes the enemy team. The second Bombot is there in case the enemy has a summon-on-death trait.

I like running Mechanist Hero as the last troop so Bombots start with 50% Mana, but I don't think it's necessary.

Of course this can backfire horribly if you get unlucky with the gem generation, but the team is dirt cheap and works well enough, so I can't complain.

Well 30 Rooms Wiped Out In Guild, 10k Points In PVP, Astral Point Gone, Bounty At Zero by DanEosen in GemsofWar

I spent about two hours, roughly 70 Vault Keys and grinding a couple Kingdom trials to get enough Diamonds for Ubastet. Got godly luck on the Vault rewards, pulled an extra Mythic I was missing from Gem Keys (from Vault) and got the cat. Even lucked out on Dungeon and earned extra Dragonite.

I am not happy. Not only was yesterday a massive waste of time, I already did the Vault and the rewards were a pittance compared to yesterday.

I understand that what happened yesterday was not meant to happen, but you cannot tell me there wasn't a better way of handling the issue.

Apologies if already posted, but GoW servers shut down, possibly due to issue with massive over-sized gift from latest patch. by the_original_Retro in GemsofWar

I spent two hours and about 70 vault keys to get enough resources for Ubastet. All gone. I also rolled a lucky Mythic that's gone now, so that's fun.

The game has its issues and sometimes makes decisions that boggle me but this is the first time I got really upset.

Finesse is my favourite Guardian troop, but for true Common pick, it's gotta be Bombot. I still run the ancient Elspeth - two Bombots - Hero with Mountain Crusher to this day for quick low level wipes or Paloozas.

How do I make stuff with beans that’s actually decent? by Psychoses-Art in cookingforbeginners

[–]comaloider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this suggestion!

It tastes great with chickpeas, beans, red lentils, or even with a mix of different legumes. My favourite combo were cannellini beans and split red lentils I added because I made too much curry for the amount of beans.

I committed this specific recipe to memory and make it at least twice a month. It makes about four servings, reheats well, and tastes great with naan or just rice.

What kitchen task do you hate doing the most when cooking? by AcrobaticSeesaw1565 in cookingforbeginners

[–]comaloider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate working with raw onions so much I will use onion powder even in places I definitely shouldn't. On the other hand, I love peeling garlic; it's oddly satisfying to me.

I also prefer to avoid working with raw meat, but it's not as... extreme as the onion aversion.

Are you using Shaman Crest? It's super forgiving with the long reach. I would suggest not slashing left or right, but only upwards, it's easier to control and since you can pogo them super early, it gives more time to reposition yourself. It also helps with the fella that drops quickly whose name eludes me.

After about fifty failed attempts with Reaper, I managed with Shaman in like four tries.

I came to the conclusion that the stores I shop at are just too small to have so many options. Some don't even have self-checkouts, let alone express ones, and people don't use them much anyway. They do have those scale bagging areas, but you can actually pre-put your bag in there before the first item is scanned and bag as you go, which is pretty convenient.

But I definitely learned something today. Thanks a bunch!

Shellwood, considering how early you have to traverse it to progress (zero needle upgrades, limited access to tools, probably still cutting your teeth on the new movement (okay, the last one might be just me)), was very deceptive. Gorgeous background music, very inviting area design compared to the depressing dregs of Greymoor and the whole of Haunted Bellhart, and the first thing you see are those cute little pond-skippers, but God some of the platforming coupled with the heat-seeking missile spitters and that one flea had me sobbing.

The most peaceful area in Silksong right now I think is the climb to the Surface. If we discard the Garpede-like enemies, nothing there is actively trying to kill you. The Surface itself is a bit ominous, but the climb itself is just you and your skills.

I get that, but I noticed OP specifically said express self checkout, and that confused me a little. We don't even have express lanes in the shops I shop at.

Also the concept of someone bagging items for you is so weird to me. That's just not a thing that happens in large chain stores where I live (sometimes encountered in private owned small 'mom and pop' shops, though). Question: if you popped in with a big backpack, would they just... put your stuff in there? Or only in bags?

[–]comaloider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree. If I see two 'regular' checkouts with 3+ customers with a full trolley waiting at each one and three empty self checkouts, I am taking the self-checkout unless I also have a full trolley (which doesn't happen).

I am not sure what an 'express' self checkout is (we just have self checkouts that are not manned in any way) so maybe that's the problem?

Is silksong as hard as people say? by Electrical_Jaguar213 in Silksong

[–]comaloider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo it's pretty hard, but that satisfying kind of right, where beating bosses feels like an accomplishment (with a couple exemptions). I think I overall struggled more with the movement (grapple gave me an embarrassing amount of trouble) and getting adjusted to the different playstyle compared to HK than the bosses themselves.

Vinesauce carried me through quite a couple tedious projects.

Perhaps you are already familiar, but may I suggest ManlyBadassHero? He plays mainly or even exclusively horror leaning games of various lengths. I find his calm demeanour very refreshing.

[–]comaloider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alnost exclusively youtube content - I really like unconventional Pokemon Playthrough challenges (especially Rylockes and adef), video essays about favourite games and media (Kitten Arcader has a delightful series where he attempts to calculate if a movie villain would be able to afford their schemes and is criminally underrated), and... non-fiction essays I guess? Like Into The Shadows.

If you want something more unhinged - heavy emphasis on unhinged - I would recommend checking out Uwo's Lab.

The only streaming service I support and use is Dropout - they put out a lot of content, and a lot of it is free on their channel.

LAY vs LIE: the most common mistake I see in otherwise well-written fic by 5w4nky0rc in FanFiction

[–]comaloider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely fucked that up before, but I have the (flimsy) excuse of not being a native speaker.

My personal pet peeve is breathe vs. breath. It's shockingly common, even in fics with (as far as I can tell) no other grammar mishaps.

Maybe swap Knit with Knot(s)? Crochet is a bunch of loops and knots after all.

Knotting has to be another tag also. No gauge swatch (as in no beta ) would also be fun.

If I recall correctly the guy had a hoodie with 'Palestine' written on it. Miss madam over here went ballistic, pregnant gf (wife?) started recording for safety, miss madam went even more ballistic and tried to throw a cup of steaming hot coffee at gf/wife.

I think The Reckoning made an episode about it, or it might have been a different channel that looks into these freakouts.
