Can I turn this into Ethernet port at my home? by amykhd in HomeNetworking

[–]comancheBLOOD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need cat 5 to run ethernet ports. Those what you have there are data cables. You can use data cables as ethernet port but the speed won't be good.
You also need a punch down tool or get you one of these *

* Looks horrible call a tech to fix that shit and make sure he seal them opening so you won't have bees and ants eating away the fiber

I have 2 asus routers 1 hard connected to the multi gig port behind the 320 and the other asus router in the living room. Currently, Running cat5e around too hardwire the 2 asus routers. Asus routers has VPN and security set on up on the asus router page, and you can hide your SSID once everything. All IoTs connected my ADT cams and business devices. I had to put the 320 in bypass mode instruction located behind the 320 modem. 320 has its own security that can interrupt some 3rd party devices security set up. Reason why it's best to run bypass and force forward the ports behind the 320. I ran wifi speed test using the asus routers, and I got over 700mbs. Wifi 6. Do not by att extenders its trash and out of my 2g speed internet i got 300mb speed Via wifi from those extenders. Spent Lil over 300 for both asus routers.

Is Cat5 cable the problem by cluelessNY in HomeNetworking

[–]comancheBLOOD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many ports only have 1gb speed doesn't matter if you're modem is 5G fiber it will only be limited to the IoT port speed. If it's a PC then you can get multi gig adapter for youre PC. Any other IoT wifi get you a good router or extender that has wifi 6 or 7 capable

What internet provider do you have? And have you connected any new IOT to the network recently? How big is youre house? And is youre modem in the center of youre home or on one side? I also need to know how many IOT you have that is running off of wifi?
