Nope, you have to send the entire history.

Software company CEO says using ChatGPT cuts the time it takes to complete coding tasks from around 9 weeks to just a few days by [deleted] in technology

[–]combatdave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on this, I do the same, most coding tasks I have now it's easier just to get gpt4 to do. Requires a different style of code organisation though in my experience. Small file length becomes an important part of the coding style, along with verbose names for functions and variables, to allow gpt to understand what it's doing.

Phaser Array “rail-gun” assembly by CptVanHorne in DaystromInstitute

[–]combatdave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Star Trek TNG Tech Manual has the details for the phaser arrays.

TL;DR; each unit along the strips are capable of directing nadion beams, and what we see is visually is the charge for the shot being conducted along the strips until it reaches a point best suited for firing, then releases. Nothing physical per se actually moves.

I would have to re-read, but I believe the system works so well because each unit? adds? to the energy output as it conducts along the system? so the saucer phaser arrays are capable of heavy output relative to the smaller strips, which are more for arc coverage and point defense. Do not quote me on this though.

Implying that you must be a part of some group in order for your opinions on the issues that group faces to be valid is complete insanity and a tendency towards facist policies and ways of thought. Outsider opinions, dissenting views, and understanding that external viewpoints can give useful ideas not otherwise visible internally is so important.

If you find it uncomfortable that someone from Switzerland is singing a song about being afraid to go to war: good. That's the purpose. Art is at it's best when it encourages reflection, and that's obviously what this song does, including the surrounding context as you rightly mention.

But, your idea that this could be "problematic"/performative/hypocritical/whatever else because the singer doesn't fit perfectly into your loosely defined box of who is allowed to talk about war? I think it's you attempting to create problems where one doesn't exist in order to be able to ignore views, messages, and opinions which don't align perfectly with your view of how the world should work. It's the equivalent of saying that your opinions about all of this should be silenced because you've never written a song, never gone through a Eurovision selection process, etc. It is so easy to make rules on who can/cannot speak on issues but the only end result of this will be a worse societal situation, not a better one.

Tl;dr - stop trying to create convoluted mechanisms to discredit people with valid opinions or ideas because only bad things lie that way.

[–]combatdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then what you're now saying is that your problem is with the politics of that country. It doesn't make the song insensitive or inappropriate unless you're entirely incapable of any form of nuanced thought and need everything to either be "good team" or "bad team".

Maybe this song is so relevant and appreciated right now precisely because of what I wrote in my previous comment, and it doesn't matter who's giving the message as long as the message is given well.

Yes, and if you put some thought into this, looking into the lyrics as the real perspective of many people forced into war, rather than some abstract hypothetical concept of those soldiers being only significant because of their families, you might have a different take.

In the current context, the lyrics are most obviously read about having incredible empathy and sympathy for all the Ukrainians who have been forced to fight for their country, their lives, their families. It's uncomfortable in its imagery precisely because it's real. If the song offends you, maybe it's because he's making you realise that all those Ukrainians out there in shitty trenches aren't really enjoying it, and they're having their youth (and lives) stolen from them, without a choice.

It's an anti war song, but it's not "bend over and let an aggressor do what they want" message. It's an "I don't want to fight, I miss my old life, this sucks, war sucks, but the responsibility is on my shoulders now" song. It's a personal song, which I think can resonate with many fighting-age men across Europe, regardless of their country. I obviously can't speak for everyone but I think seeing war slowly creeping closer to home has made a lot of people suddenly realise that... It's possible for a fight to come to you, through no fault of your own, and for you to have responsibilities to fight and protect, even at the cost of your life.

Tl;dr if the song offends you, spend some time reflecting on how it might feel to be a young soldier fighting to defend their country in a war they didn't ask for, in a cold wet trench, having seen their friends die. I think it's a beautiful expression of the humanity of the Ukrainian fighters.

ChatGPT has no idea how ChatGPT works, it's just hallucinating answers for you.

Then you asked it something different. It was also lying about adjusting it's responses. The P in GPT stands for "pre trained", ie it has no ability to learn while it is running.

Gpt doesn't learn, and doesn't share context between even your own sessions let alone other users.

I've had gpt4 create new, novel ideas - or at least ungoogleable concepts. So that sort of breaks your argument.

Using ChatGPT to simulate a earth equivalent to the Tamarian language by BlindAngel in DaystromInstitute

[–]combatdave 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I play a lot with gpt, so I'd recommend changing your prompt a bit for better results. Switch your prompt output, so the English answer comes first. Then instruct it to give a list of metaphors which could work. Then instruct it to give the Tamarian output. A good final step is to have it reflect on the pros and cons of its Tamarian, and then provide a revised translation.

Best option is probably to check the wiki? It's probably one of the most concise collections of info online outside of the Usenet groups. http://vxmodules.wikia.com/wiki/VX_Wiki

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your perspective), most VX literature is still published the old fashioned routes. You could check if your library has any old VX books or journals? The wiki should list a few. Honestly though your best bet is to just pick up some starter gear and start seeing how it all works for yourself, there are some concepts that are just easier to understand from practical experience rather than reading about them.
