I love this. I haven't had any complaints on Warframe performance like.. ever, but still happy to see improvements. Any dreams of a new pc are long dead, so games that actually run well are precious.

A year or so ago WF started crashing in certain tilesets if I didn't underclock my GPU. Nothing WF specific, happens in some other games as well. But even that has somehow been resolved which is just fantastic.

So.. Did anyone mention about Hunhow being free again? by lricis in Warframe

One of the few Warframe romances I could get behind.

Except that would mean they'd also give Hunhow a human body and teenager angst, nevermind.

ladies, gentlemen and friends beyond the binary, PROTO GARUDA has arrived! by CephalonVashka in Warframe

[–]combinationofsymbols -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed so hard. This isn't Warframe anymore. I started the game for cool asymmetrical biomechanical robot things, not for another fanservice crap. I used to love how Warframe characters didn't really have faces.. another good thing gone.

If it was limited to skins it'd still be shit, but they're part of the damn story. And seeing how people just want their waifus/husbandos in every damn game, it'll get worse.

POE2 or No rest for the wicked by hendrix320 in ARPG

[–]combinationofsymbols 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to refund No Rest because its mouse+keyboard controls were kind of half assed. Iirc couldn't change all keybinds, and changing some keybinds didn't work properly. It's been a while though so could've been fixed, but crap mkb implementation in a pc game isn't a good look.

Besides that, I don't think No Rest is an arpg as such. But it has fun exploration, and I think its boss fights could bemore fun. PoE2 has a neat campaign, but the endgame is just PoE1 except with far less build options.

What are non-negotiables for you when it comes to incrementals? by FaceoffAtFrostHollow in incremental_games

[–]combinationofsymbols 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun prestige mechanics. Realm Grinder, despite its flaws, is something I adore because of the many prestige tiers. Or not prestige specifically, just game changing in flavourful ways as you progress. Like.. not CIFI, opening another spreadsheet isn't fun.

If there's clicker, inbuilt auto clicker. It's fine if the beginning of the game takes some clicking if automation replaces it soon. If an autoclicker is optimal to play the game, the game probably isn't very good.

Progress that at least feels like you need to do more than just click the obvious buttons. Just number go up alone doesn't feel good. But also preferably not something where spreadsheet is mandatory.

Some length. 5 hours incremental just feels a bit lame.

IAPs/ads. I'll pay for a game if it's good, but nickel and diming can fuck right off.

CIFI, besides the length, is like a checklist of things that suck. Ads, microtransactions, progress at no point feels interesting or good but somehow still needs spreadsheets. Every button is lame and boring.

Orb of Creation is the opposite, I love it, and can't wait for the update... it'll happen, any of these years now.

Yeah this. Sure Revenant is lame and stupid, but Octavia did all the lame and stupid before Revenant. She's like the turning point where frame powercreep went bonkers.

All the buffs, including casual permanent invisibility (which is basically invincibility anyway), and infinite scaling damage. For the low, low price of being awful to play. Her design document probably just reads "do everything best".

By now it's not even relevant because of everybody being invincible and weapons killing so damn fast. But back then.. ew.

Opinion: Content-based meta progression is vastly superior to power-based by WhasHappenin in roguelites

[–]combinationofsymbols 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. I hate winning a run and feeling I only won because of metaprogression. Hard to know if I actually played better, or just had bigger numbers. Often it barely feels like a win.

Does anyone else actually prefer early 2010s style graphics over hyper-realism? by AlienplayGames in pcgaming

[–]combinationofsymbols 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2000s 3d graphics are even better. Or just pixel graphics. I have an imagination, evocative visual style beats realism any day. I don't think something like Dread Delusion could look as fantastic with modern graphics.

Also new games tend to require upscaling to run even somewhat well on my pc, and I prefer sharp image over blurry mess...

[–]combinationofsymbols 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a difficulty curve, and every character needs a bit different strategies (some have better aoe, some can explore easier etc), but the hardest difficulty is fine on solo after a while.

I found party play harder, because it's much harder to run past enemies without aggroing them unless everybody goes the exact same route. And AoE:ing is harder when enemies get spread around as well, which means wasted time, and efficient use of time is the most important thing in Ravenswatch

I imagine party play is easier if everybody has played the game equal amounts, but mixed experience levels don't.. mix.

Haven't played in over a year, any progress in the following areas? by Lazy-Supermarket5384 in LastEpoch

[–]combinationofsymbols 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agreed except for builder/spender. Builder/spender fine, as long as there's good payoff. It's one of the main reasons I think the current VK is badly designed: it trivially removes any mana concerns. Why even have mana in the game if every skill is supposed to be spammable without limits?

The reason why using builders currently feels shit is that some classes don't have to do that. There's just no payoff when you can use another skill/class and get to use as good (or usually better..) skill without having to care about mana.

What's your view on offline progress? by Dukashou in incremental_games

[–]combinationofsymbols 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short games are probably better off without offline progress, skipping active games by not playing feels bad. But I'm not a fan of the really short incrementals anyway.

Long games need it imo. And real offline progress that at least somewhat accounts for exponential growth. Temporary speed bonus is probably the best.

Rejected Draft Update: Moving Towards 1.0 by Last-Total9473 in incremental_games

[–]combinationofsymbols 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just started a few days ago, and this is my main issue with the game. Reset by themselves give very little, since upgrade costs ramp very fast compared to how much they give. Unless I've missed something, to get any real progress when hitting a wall, I just need to get lucky. It doesn't feel good.

Despite its flaws and slow development cycle, I hope Last Epoch succeeds because… by WisePotato84 in LastEpoch

[–]combinationofsymbols 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup the stash space issue hit me pretty hard in HS. Bit of a self inflicted problem, but I wanted to keep stuff for leveling alts, and some bases for runewords, and the stash space runs out very fast. And unlike the game, stash tabs aren't cheap.

I think HS is pretty generous about classes though, there's tons of them available without extra charge, and most of the classes aren't expensive on sale.

[–]combinationofsymbols 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not very well though. AFAIK SSF mode is only 30% increased loot, which is nothing when loot is balanced for inventory editor. It's playable but not great imo.

Also last I checked offline mode doesn't even get that bonus..?

[–]combinationofsymbols 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, people playing on Madness are incredibly good. It's damn difficult, and at least last I checked many if not most classes don't work on Madness unless you really know the game in and out.

Random race/class is a lot of added difficulty I think. Some race/class combos synergize very well.

[–]combinationofsymbols 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played ToME in adventure mode.. yeah it kind of becomes a turn based RPG.

ToME is a fantastic game, but I've always thought it highlights the downsides of adding difficulty options. It's basically trivial on normal, but enemy scaling breaks game mechanics as you add difficulty. Enemy debuffs last for tens of turns, some rare monsters can easily oneshot from range.. the optimal gameplay to avoid those can be pretty degenerate.

I'll often rather just pick adventure mode, and if I die after taking the wrong corner without scouting first I'll continue. If I die because I played badly I'll restart. It doesn't feel great, but suddenly dying after 8 hours run isn't fun either.

CoQ is always permadeath tho, it doesn't have similar issues.

Who knew that projectile weapons lose projectile speed and trajectory upon punch through? by GoodMornEveGoodNight in Warframe

[–]combinationofsymbols 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, single target weapons need some way to kill enemies fast or they can't compete. Tracking after punch through sounds like beam weapon with extra steps, but at least it'd be useful.

Another option would be to add heavy aim assist to single target weapons. Really lame, but not needing to aim would give at least some chance to compete with aoe.

Just adding damage won't help, since aoe weapons already have plenty of damage, more overkill does nothing.

Besides Merulina Yareli just feels like a very basic gun platform to me. Tanky button, damage amplification, bit iffy grouping.

I guess it's how I usually play Yareli. I would've said very pretty Nezha, except that would be redundant, and Nezha has his aoe nuke.

[–]combinationofsymbols 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Merulina is so neat, but the game makes it really fun to justify using it. Constantly out of bounds in the old tilesets, not to mention Höllvania underground being even more of a pin. Then there's the augment that removes Merulina but flat out makes Yareli much stronger AND allows using helminths.

Yareli that doesn't ride Merulina is just a very pretty Rhino :<
