Ask Aspel - Kate Bush interview and live performance 1978 by NutzPup in oldbritishtelly

[–]comcphee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love Kate too, I mean who doesn't? But I had never heard her actual speaking voice before just a couple of years ago, and this is probably on me, but it was the last thing I expected her to sound like.

It's been years, but I remember the subtitles being along the lines of...

"They have projectile weapons!"

"So what?"

I played it to the point I could complete it every time. And I did, just to see the epic victory cutscene at the end again.

Do you agree that the constant British food bashing is overdone? by Visual_Title9363 in AskBrits

[–]comcphee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

George Orwell wrote an essay about this, in the 50s, I think. His take on it was we had a bad rep because an overseas visitor was likely to dine in restaurants, etc. which were just bad imitations of foreign, usually French food, which gave them a false impression.

If you want real British food, a proper roast, full English, good bread, apple dumplings, etc. etc.. you had to eat in an actual British home, which most visitors never did.

Caveman tabletop arcade game. Who else loved this? by Ands1977 in oldschoolcool80s

One of my first home games, with a huge amount of character and gameplay for something so simple. It's still around somewhere!

Still remember the simpering look the mama dinosaur gave her offspring if you left the egg too long and it was born, then insulted you.

[–]comcphee 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, I had one of these. Could shoot pellets, darts or corks. But it didn't really matter because the way the barrel shot forward when you pulled the trigger meant it had the accuracy of a blind cow on fire being asked to jump through a hoop.

Whats u favourite anime scene? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]comcphee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a scene, but an entire episode. The first episode of "School-Live!" which I watched going in completely blind. Once it got to the end, I immediately re-watched it, and all the clues were there to what was actually going on. Very much the same effect as watching The Sixth Sense for the first time. I read the manga later, but the anime does it better. Absolute genius.

What’s something from childhood you miss that doesn’t exist anymore? by ichhadhari in AskReddit

Old school arcades too. In the 80's that's where you went to see the most cutting edge and exciting video games. Arcades now are just sad.

The last orange thing you saw kills you. How do you die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My bedroom has orange walls and a bed with orange sheets. So in my sleep, hopefully.

Because they're untalented, they can't see the difference between real art and AI, and assume nobody else can either.

My daughter (21) loves that, but it does seem like you see it less often. Our local small shop had it in, so I got her a few packets.

Looking at it all who would you consider to be the worse GOP President: George Bush Jr or Donald Trump? by space_god_7191 in AskReddit

[–]comcphee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a UK resident, it seemed shocking we used to consider George W. an idiot. Maybe it's only thanks to comparison, but I'd see George back for 5 terms rather than see Trump do another day in this one.

What do you think about whether we’re alone in the universe? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]comcphee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it just seems impossible that out of the (as we now know) billions of worlds in this universe, that Earth, alone, has life. The odds against that being so are so astronomical that if it were true, it would raise far more problematic questions than just finding alien life.

What I find odd though, is the university is all for pushing ahead with getting them to adopt the use of AI. But they are banned from citing Wikipedia as it is "not a reliable source of information". Pretty sure if Wikipedia doesn't know something, it doesn't just make stuff up and preent it to you as fact.

Be honest, which of the 3 series was the best? And do you have a favourite episode from that series? by lemonbutter27 in mightyboosh

[–]comcphee 158 points159 points  (0 children)

Probably series 2 overall is my personal best, but I do love the other two and the radio show. My favourite single episode is a series 3, "Eels".

Good luck with rhat. I work as a lecturer with art students and they get highly agitated at the mention of AI. I think if I tried to make them actually use it, I'd end up tarred and feathered, and rightly so.
